In a battle of Pacific Division rivals, the San Jose sharks will travel to Calgary to take on the surging Flames.
Just three points separates the two teams, so the seeding implications in this four point game will be significant.
The Sharks have sputtered in their last 10 games, whereas the Flames have a winning record in their last 10 games and have shot into the playoff picture.
San Jose Sharks
Logan Couture suffered an unfortunate injury and will be out indefinitely, but has been ruled out for the remainder of the road trip this weekend.
The dental work shouldn’t affect his performance upon return and into playoffs though, which the Sharks are most concerned about.
The Sharks, luckily, have plenty of scorers that can make-up for the loss of Couture.
Joe Pavelski leads the team’s forwards with 28 goals and 65 points. Veterans Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau have each reached the 45 points threshold and are capable of producing behind Pavelski.
The most impactful player on the team, though, is defenseman Brent Burns. Burns is having a career year, leading the Sharks in scoring with 28 goals and 73 points in 76 games played.
He’s broken out of a seven-game point slump to record a point in each of the last two games, and he’ll be relied upon heavily to produce in Couture’s absence.
Martin Jones has been solid between the pipes, owning a .912 SV% and a 2.37 GAA with 33 wins in 60 tries.
His backup, Aaron Dell, has also been excellent in limited action, with a .928 SV% and 2.09 GAA in 18 appearances.
Calgary has turned their season around in a major way in 2017, going 18-6-1 since the start of February and likely earning a playoff spot.
The resurgent has been the byproduct of a number of different factors, but the turn in the play of Brian Elliott has been crucial.
Elliott, who had a disastrous start to his Calgary campaign, has now reclaimed the starting role after recording a SV% of .922 in February and .935 in March. Elliott has boosted his season numbers to a .911 SV% and a 2.51 GAA with 25 wins.
Johnny Gaudreau once again leads the Flames’ stat sheet, with 17 goals and 59 points in 67 games played. He’s followed closely by Sean Monahan, who has 57 points and is the top goal-scorer on the squad with 26 Ginos.
The defense has turned into what might be the Flames’ greatest strength, with the likes of Dougie Hamilton, Mark Giordano, T.J. Brodie and the newest acquisition, Michael Stone.
Hamilton has the best point total of any Calgary defender, with 49 on the year. His pairing-mate, Giordano, has the best plus-minus at +22.

Free San Jose Sharks vs. Calgary Flames NHL Hockey Prediction:
The Sharks haven’t had a great stretch over their last 10 games, and are missing a key scorer in Logan Couture. Meanwhile, Calgary has been white hot and the bolstering of the blueline with Michael Stone has paid big dividends.
