This will be the third time in the two franchises careers that they’ll meet in the NHL Playoffs.
Both have gone the Sharks way, winning 4-1 on both occasions.
However, during the regular season this year, it was Nashville who got the leg up. They won 2 of 3, really having a significant edge on both sides of the puck in the process.
Who’s got the edge here? Let’s break it down.

Nashville Predators vs. San Jose Sharks Series Forwards
San Jose got production from a lot of different players in the first round, however, it was their first line that really did the damage.
The Sharks first line had 7 of 16 goals scored. Joel Pavelski leads that charge as he score 5 goals to his credit. The rookie Joonas Donskoi, was also clutch, putting in a pair of goals including the game winner in Game 5.

The Predators are a more defensive minded team, but Colin Wilson was a big factor in the first round win. He tallied 2 goals and 5 points overall to lead the pack.
After a disappointing regular season, Wilson showing signs of life in the playoffs has to be encouraging for the Preds.
Look for them to rely on Wilson here a lot, as the offensive production comes sparingly for them.
Verdict: Give the edge to the Sharks here. They have a lot more depth, along with Pavelski who can literally take any game over.
Nashville Predators vs. San Jose Sharks Series Defense and Goaltending
Brent Burns has been the go to defender for San Jose all season long. Burns turned in 8 points overall and 3 on the powerplay. He has the ability to really step up defensively, but can also be a threat to find the back of the net.
Marc-Edouard Vlasic is also a huge key to the Sharks success here. After getting injured in Game 1, he came back and continued to log a lot of ice time. He is typically going to find himself in there in clutch time.
In net, Martin Jones has been one of the most consistent netminders in the NHL. Jones had just a 2.27 GAA with a SV% of .918. He was just as clutch as his defense as he made big save after big save in Round 1.
For the Preds, their defense is one of the most offensive minded in the NHL. They finished the regular season tied for the most points by defenders and they continued that trend right through the First Round.
In both elimination games, the defense came up huge allowing just 2 goals combined.

That is also thanks in large part to G Pekka Rinne. Especially in Game 7, he came up clutch on many occasions, especially in Game 7. Rinne allowed just 1 goal and turned aside 36 shots.
Verdict: The Predators defense gets the edge here. With their ability to score and set their wing players up, they have a lot to offer. Especially with how Rinne came up huge in Game 6 and Game 7, this Predators defense is playing with a lot of momentum right now.
Predators vs. Sharks Free Series Predictions:
This will come down to the goalies here.
Both offense are talented, but these two teams rely on their defense to set things up.
With the Nashville defense having the ability to find the back of the net or put together a string of passes, the Preds have the better chance to steal a game or two on the road.
