A pair of teams from the Metropolitan Division look to gain two points in the standings as the Pittsburgh Penguins take on the Carolina Hurricanes.

Pittsburgh
The Pittsburgh Penguins’ 2015-16 campaign did not go the way they thought it would when the season began. Head coach Mike Johnston was fired in the middle of December after the Penguins got off to a sluggish start, and the team has never fully recovered since.
The Pens’ 45 points puts them 11th in the highly-competitive Eastern Conference, and it will take a strong second half if they want to make the playoffs.
[dfads params=’groups=226&limit=1&return_javascript=1′]
The Penguins’ main problem is that they can’t put the puck in the net. Despite an average of 32 shots on goal per game, which ranks 3rd in the NHL, the Penguins are 26th in scoring with just 2.34 goals per game.
Evgeni Malkin has been Pittsburgh’s lone bright spot this year. He leads the team with 39 points, and his 19 goals put him in a tie for 6th-most in the league.
Pittsburgh has a slightly favorable record against Eastern Conference opponents this year with a mark of 11-7-2.
Carolina
The Carolina Hurricanes are just two points behind the Penguins in the Metropolitan Division and are coming off back-to-back wins over the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Carolina is playing the same hockey it played last year, but this Hurricanes team has a much stronger defense.
[dfads params=’groups=235&limit=1&return_javascript=1′]
The Hurricanes are allowing the fewest average of shots on goal per game at 26.2 per contest, but they’re allowing 2.7 GPG which ranks 21st in the league. Cam Ward is having a tough time in net this year, and it’s shown on the scoreboard. He comes into this game with a GAA of 2.42 and a save percentage of just .905.
Carolina’s goal differential of -16 is one of the worst in the Eastern Conference, and the Hurricanes are going to have to change that if they want any chance at the postseason.

Free NHL Hockey Prediction
This won’t be a pretty game, but I expect the Penguins to leave this one with a win.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Pittsburgh ML
The Hurricanes are coming off back-to-back wins, but both against the worst team in the NHL. Pittsburgh has played well against Carolina recently, especially on the road where the Penguins have won 4 of the last 5.
