The Pittsburgh Penguins will travel down to New York to face the Rangers for the 4th meeting between these two teams this season. Pittsburgh is 2-1 this season but lost the last time they played.
Pittsburgh Penguins
Pittsburgh will come into Saturday on a mini two game losing streak, but over their last 10 they have been good going 6-3-1. These two teams just played each other on Thursday and the Rangers bested the Penguins 4-2.
Offense
The Penguins are a fairly mediocre team statistically on both offence and defence. Let’s take a deeper look at the offence, they only score 3.26 goals per game which is only good for 13th in the league, they do however manage the 5th most shots on goal at 34 per game. The power play is pretty much middle of the pack at 22% which is good enough for 13th in the NHL. One area where the Penguins do well is in the faceoff dot which helps them generate offence quicker and more effectively.
Defense
Mediocre should be the Penguins slogan as the offence is mediocre so is the defense. Ranking 17th in goals given up per game, also letting teams put up big shots on goal numbers as Pittsburgh gives up almost 34 shots per game which is well below average. The Penguins have a middle of the pack penalty kill coming in right at 14th in the league but has been on the improve recently.
Goaltending
Tristan Jarry is the expected starter for Saturday. Jarry has had a pretty decent season going 20-8-6 with a 2.96 goals against average and a .910%, he also has one shutout to his name this year. Jarry did play against these Rangers on Thursday and gave up 3 goals on 34 shots.
New York Rangers
New York will be coming into Saturday after beating these same Penguins on Thursday 4-2 and will be looking to sweep the mini 2 game set at Madison Square.
Offense
The Offence of the Rangers are pretty good in most main categories, they average 3.26 goals per game and put up the 15th most shots in the league with just under 32 per game. The power play is also strong and ranks 9th at 23%. The Rangers have scored 9 goals in their last 2 game, the offence is hot.
Defense
The Ranger’s defense has been very good this season, giving up only 2.78 goals per game and not giving up a lot of shots at only 29 per game. The one stat the Rangers struggle with is the penalty kill, only killing off 79 percent of penalties which is only good enough for 17th in the league. The positive is that the Rangers are one of the most discipline teams in the NHL. The rangers only average 7 penalty mins per game, which keeps that struggling penalty kill on the bench and not forced to kill of penalties.
Goaltending
All indications would point to the Rangers going to Igor Shesterkin to try and grab the second half of this mini series. Igor has been one of the best goalies in the league this season. He has a 31-11-7 record with one shutout. Igor will be going for his 5 straight win if in-fact he does get the call on Saturday.

Free Pittsburgh Penguins vs. New York Rangers NHL Prediction
This is a very interesting game on paper, you have the Rangers who are probably the better team and have the better goaltending but then you have the Penguins who just lost to the Rangers and it is hard for teams to beat the same team in a small amount of time but the Rangers are just the better team and they are my pick.
