In this one we see the Penguins travel to the music city to take on the Predators in Nashville. Nashville has an unimpressive home record of 17-11 and Pittsburgh has been rock solid on the road this season with a stellar 19-6-4 record.
Nashville is currently sitting in the Wild Card 1 spot with 72 points but have the same amount of points as the Wild who sit in the 3rd in the Central division.
This stretch is crucial for the Predators to keep pace with not only the Wild but also the Dallas Stars, Vegas Golden Knights who are reeling, and the Edmonton Oilers for those final wild card spots.
I expect the Predators to come out with urgency night in and night out. The Penguins on the other hand just like most of the Eastern conference teams have a playoff spot all but locked up.
Not a lot of room for any outside teams looking in to overtake anyone.
So with that in mind, and this line set let’s look a little further into this one and see what side we like. I definitely lean one way here upon initially taking a look at this matchup but, let’s examine closely.
Pittsburgh Penguins
The Penguins did have a brief slump that has resulted in them going 5-4-1 in their last ten games but are still playing pretty solid throughout this stretch. One area of weakness this team could stand to address at the deadline is secondary scoring.
Some analysts in the business claim that Kasperi Kapanen has not been a fit since being acquired by the Penguins, which was vindicated last week when Mike Sullivan decided to make him a healthy scratch.
I do think this Penguins team will look to add a piece or two at the deadline to bolster there top 9 forward group. They have been linked to Brock Boeser of the Vancouver Canucks.
Could be somewhat wishful thinking for me, but I wonder if they inquire with Arizona about Phil Kessel’s availability. He has familiarity with Evgeni Malkin from his previous stint in Pittsburgh and could step right into that role on the second line as well as the power play.
Nashville Predators
The Predators are a difficult evaluation for me. I really like this roster and they are getting some incredible performances this season from some of their studs like Roman Josi for one who is a norris trophy candidate.
The problem with this team is other than they are early to mid season heater, they have a tough time remaining consistent and putting together complete games each and every night.
Another one of their top dogs, Juuse Saros will be getting the start in this one and he is also having a career year and will be in the running for the Vezina trophy.
Unfortunately for him it essentially has Shesterkin etched into it already.

I don’t bet against the Penguins right now, especially against a streaky team who is underwhelming at home. I think the Penguins are a much more complete team who plays a gritty game that the Predators do not match up well against.
I am taking the Penguins on the juice in this one. Also, I do not hate the under in this one.
Both starters are going and both teams allow less then three goals per game.
