The Philadelphia Flyers look to continue their climb in the Eastern Division this Sunday, as they take on the Washington Capitals at Capital One Center.
The Capitals on the other hand will look to stop the bleeding a bit, but they will need to be better than they have been recently, as they are headed in the opposite direction in the standings after their hot start to the season.
Although the Flyers have been moving up the standings, they will need to bounce back after getting swept by a very strong looking Boston Bruins team. They should be more than capable of doing just that, as this offense has been electric scoring well over 3 goals per game and hitting at a slightly better than 27% rate on the power play.
They also have had exceptional goaltending from Brian Elliot who now has a save percentage of .929 and who is projected to get the start here against the Capitals.
The Capitals are also coming off of back to back losses, but I do not expect their skid to last long, as they have all the pieces to make yet another Stanley Cup run. Backstrom has been on fire to start the year with 5 goals and 9 assists and this team finally has their star Alexander Ovechkin after he missed time due to Covid protocols.
The Capitals also have a pretty solid goalie between the pipes as well as Vitek Vanecek has started out the year with a 2.95 GAA and a .911 save percentage and no those are not lights-out numbers, but this Washington defense has done him no favors and he has already stolen multiple games for this Caps team this year.
NHL Betting Trends:
- Over is 3-1-1 in Capitals last 5 after scoring 2 goals or less in their previous game.
- Over is 26-11-1 in Capitals last 38 vs. a team with a winning record.
- Over is 35-16 in Capitals last 51 home games.
- Over is 5-0 in Flyers last 5 when their opponent scores 2 goals or less in their previous game.
- Over is 20-8-2 in Flyers last 30 road games.
- Over is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings in Washington.
Free Philadelphia Flyers vs. Washington Capitals NHL Prediction:
This game is on at a weird time and I could see both of these teams coming out of the gates a bit sloppy possibly leading to some extra scoring opportunities. This Capitals defense also has not been very good, and I can see a potent offense like the Flyers taking advantage of that.
I do, however, fully expect the Capitals to contribute plenty on the scoreboard as well as they have serious firepower going forward which is tough for anyone in the league to stop.
