Philadelphia, on the second of a back-to-back, will look to beat an extremely good Columbus team in Nationwide Arena on Sunday.
Columbus’ winning streak has come to an end but that doesn’t mean the team is taking its foot off the gas. The Blue Jackets will look to get right back on that horse against the Flyers.
The Flyers play in the toughest division in the NHL, the Metropolitan. While they’re a quality squad, capable of making the playoffs in almost any other division, the extremely good Metropolitan Division has made it tough for them to seem like a playoff team.
The Flyers are the 5th seed in the Metro right now and, the way the other teams are playing, it looks like they might stay 5th when all is said and done.
Philly was looking great for a while, but has lost five straight games and started to look less and less like a potential playoff team. The defense has been atrocious and has given up 125 goals on the season.
To have any chance at gaining ground in the division, the defense will have to really step up. The Flyers rank 28th in goals against and give up an average of 3.13 goals per game.
Fortunately for Philly, the offense is as good as the defense is bad. The Flyers have scored 118 goals in 40 games and have multiple weapons, including Wayne Simmonds and Claude Giroux.
Columbus Blue Jackets
Columbus won 16 straight games and, if not for a loss to the tough Washington Capitals, probably could have broken the NHL record for consecutive wins.
Despite missing out on history, the Blue Jackets have proven to be a fantastic team, capable of beating anyone.
The Columbus offense has been wonderful all season, and especially during the winning streak. The team ranks 3rd in the league in goals (126) and has four guys in double figures in goals.
Cam Atkinson has had a brilliant year with 18 goals and 20 assists, including three goals and an assist in his last five games.
Brandon Saad has been playing extremely well. He has two goals and four assists in his last five games. Captain Nick Foligno has three goals and five assists in his last five, giving him 13 goals and 20 assists on the year.
Coach John Tortorella has stated that Columbus can’t get complacent now that the winning streak is over and the Blue Jackets will look to prove that there is no complacency setting in.
Columbus should play well against the Flyers.
NHL Betting Trends:
- Philadelphia is 1-4 ATS in the last five games
- The Over is 3-1-1 in Columbus’ last five games
Free Philadelphia Flyers vs. Columbus Blue Jackets NHL Hockey Prediction:
Columbus is fantastic on its home ice. I like the Blue Jackets to bounce back after their first loss in 17 games and take care of the Flyers at home.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Over 5.5
Philly has the ability and the players to score 5 goals on their own. Columbus does too. With so many scorers on the ice, this should be a high scoring game.
