The Bruins have alternated wins and losses the last six games, which doesn’t bode well following a 7-5 win over Pittsburgh on Saturday. Can Boston break that recent trend when the Flyers come to town?
Philadelphia Flyers
Philadelphia is in the tough spot of giving up a ton of goals on any given night, but at the same time not scoring that much either though. The Flyers have been held to 2 goals or less in 6 of the last 10.
The lack of offense is somewhat of a recent thing though, as Philadelphia does rank 13th in scoring this season. They have some skaters that are playing well as of late to even though it may not reflect as such in the win-loss column.
Jakub Voracek has 4 points in the last three games, Sean Couterier has 8 in the last 6, and Claude Giroux had both goals in Saturday’s 2-3 SO loss to the Islanders.
While that’s good offensive production, Alain Vigneault needs greatness the way his defense is playing. Philadelphia ranks dead last in the NHL in goals allowed at 3.6 per game. It’s really a surprise the Flyers are even in 5th place in the East division.
Boston Bruins
Philadelphia will give up some big offensive nights, can Boston capitalize? In the last 10 games the Flyers have allowed a 9 goal night to the Rangers, 6 to the Islanders and Sabres, and another 8 to the Rangers.
Boston just hung a 7 spot in a win over the Penguins on Saturday, so this offense has big nights in them on occasion. What works to the Bruins advantage on Monday is that they just pepper opposing goaltenders, ranking 4th in the league with 32.4 SOG per game.
One big reason to like Boston, even paying up for the -175, is because their big dogs are producing right now. Brad Marchand had a hat trick on Saturday and has scored in three straight. David Pastrnak added 2 goals and Patrice Bergeron had a score to help break a 5-game Pittsburgh win streak.
It’s looking like Jaroslav Halak will have some support ahead of Monday night’s game. That’s a good thing, as he has allowed 4+ goals in three of his last four outings but as a testament to his offense is still just 2-1-1 over that span.
NHL Betting Trends:
- Flyers are 2-6 last 8
- Flyers are 1-6 last 7 as a road underdog
- Flyers are 2-11 last 13 as an underdog
- Over is 11-3 in Flyers last 14 overall
- Bruins are 1-8 last 9 following a win
- Under is 12-3-1 in Bruins last 16 overall
- Flyers are 0-5 last 5 head to head meetings
Free Philadelphia Flyers vs. Boston Bruins NHL Prediction:
There’s not a ton to like about the Flyers in this matchup. They’re having a hard time scoring right now while also prone to allow 4 or 5+ on any given night.
Boston is at home where they are 10-5-2 on the year, but at the same time Halak is no sure thing in net right now either. There will be goals scored on Monday, and not necessarily because of quality offensive play.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Over 5.5
The way the Flyers have played defense as of late, they could allow Boston to hit this number themselves.
