It certainly was not pretty from a fundamental standpoint, but the Rangers got an important two points in their season opener by a score of 6-4.

The Senators performed well in their first game of the season against the Maple Leafs in what was not the easiest spot in the world against a super talented Maple Leafs team on their home opener and the NHL’s season opener.

It must have been entertaining to watch, but that was not a very good first game for the Rangers despite winning the contest.

Their defense was bad allowing the Jets to fire 47 shots on goal and forcing Lundqvist to have a pretty good day despite allowing 4 goals.

The Rangers now play what is projected to be the worst team in hockey, but a performance like that last one won’t cut it even against the Senators.

They also are unlikely to have Lundy for this game as the backup is projected to start in this one.

Ottawa Senators

The Ottawa Senators are likely in for a long season, but they do have some guts and grittiness like they showed in their season opener against the Maple Leafs.

They played some really good fundamental hockey in that one out blocking and out hitting their inter-provincial rivals.

Anderson will start here for the Sens, so I think they have the edge between the sticks. They also should be pumped up for their first home game of the season, so the Senators might have a chance to get their first points of the season.

You won’t see me recommending the Senators very often this year, but this is one of those situations. First off I liked what I saw from the Senators in their first game and it gave me the impression that they may not be as bad everyone thinks.

Second, it does not look like Lundqvist gets the start so they will not have their future HOF goaltender between the sticks for this one. Third, the price is great getting plus money and this is the Senators home opener and given the projection for this Senators team this year this might be the loudest crowd of the entire season.
