The Rangers are one of the best teams in the league this season and currently sit in 2nd place in the Metro Division, behind the surging Penguins.
The Blueshirts will travel to Nashville to take on the Ryan Johansen-led Predators, who have underperformed and sit in 4th in the Central.
New York Rangers
New York sits in second in goals per game at 3.4 goals per game, behind only the aforementioned Penguins. The Rangers grade out amongst the top in a number of major categories, including goals against (7th), powerplay (4th) and penalty kill (4th).

The breakout season for J.T. Miller continues, leading the team on Broadway with 22 points in 31 games played. Even more impressive, just three of Miller’s points have come on the powerplay.
While there is no one player amongst the league point leaders, the depth on the Rangers is unquestioned. Fourteen players on the team have double-digit point totals, which is amongst the best of any roster.
On the back end, captain Ryan McDonagh leads both in points, with 17, and time on ice with an average of 24:02 per game. The captain is also a plus- 11 on the year, a category in which only one regular Rangers’ player sits in a minus rating on the year.
While Henrik Lundqvist hasn’t performed to his regular standards thus far, his understudy that was acquired in the off-season has been spectacular. On the year, Antti Raanta has a 1.69 GAA and a .941 SV% in 12 games, whereas Lundqvist has a 2.55 and .912, respectively.
Nashville
The Preds made an exciting off-season move acquiring electric defender, PK Subban, but have been anything but electric early on.
The new style of play with Subban on-board, and the acquisition of #1 center, Ryan Johansen, mid-way through last season was supposed to create a more powerful offense. Johansen has chipped in 20 points in 28 games players and Subban 17 of his own.
But on the whole the team have underperformed to expectations and currently sit in 4th in the Central Division, although they do sit 6th in goals per game at 3.0.
It’s surprising to see that their goals against per game mark ranks out at 19th best, considering they have a solid top-4 defensive unit and Pekka Rinne in net. The 21st ranked penalty kill certainly contributes to that, so I’m sure coach Pierre Laviolette is preaching discipline.

Rinne on the year owns a .918 SV% and a 2.48 GAA, which are not bad stats by any means. The incumbent Finnish starter has allowed three or more goals in each of his last six games.
NHL Betting Trends:
- The Rangers sit 2nd overall in goals for with an average of 3.4 per game
- New York has the best goal differential in the NHL at +34
- New York is 9-5-0 on the road this season
- Rick Nash is the only minus player of Rangers’ regulars this year

- Nashville is 2-4 in December games
Free New York Rangers vs. Nashville Predators NHL Hockey Prediction:
The Rangers are a legitimate contender this season, even though their superstar goaltender hasn’t performed up to standard this season.
I like the over here, considering that Nashville is scoring nearly three goals per game over their past seven games, and sit at 6th overall on the season in scoring.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: OVER 5.5
New York sits second in that same category, and have had no problem performing on the road as seen by their 9-5-0 record.
