Game 1 of the Eastern Conference went to the New York Rangers, who beat the Montreal Canadiens in Montreal 2-0.
One more game in the Bell Centre will take place before heading to Madison Square Garden and the Canadiens will desperately need to win it.
New York Rangers
Tanner Glass opened the series’ scoring in the first period of game one, netting a goal at the 9:50 mark. It was his only shot of the game but it was the game’s winner.
The Rangers finished the game with 31 shots, taking an aggressive approach against Montreal’s Carey Price. The Rangers ended up adding an empty netter from Michael Grabner near the end of the game to win 2-0.
The Rangers were able to hold off the scorers of Montreal, thanks to a great performance from Henrik Lundqvist. He faced 31 shots and saved all of them.
If the Rangers can do more of the same and hold off the Canadiens scorers, New York could look at a 2-0 lead heading back to its home ice.
Penalties definitely hurt the Montreal Canadiens, who actually didn’t play a bad game by any means. Unfortunately, the team was weighed down by 20 total penalty minutes, 10 of which came from Andrei Markov.
Goaltender Carey Price faced 30 shots and saved 29 of them, a .967 save percentage. He was certainly not the problem for Montreal.
Offensively, there were a lot of chances but no one could capitalize. Captain and leading scorer Max Pacioretty had five shots but couldn’t connect. Alex Galchenyuk had four shots and didn’t find the back of the net.
To beat the Rangers in game two, not much needs to change defensively, but the penalty minutes have to go down and the team has to light the lamp at least once.
NHL Betting Trends:
- New York is 16-8 ATS in the last 24 games on the road
- The UNDER is 5-1 in Montreal’s last six games
Free New York Rangers vs. Montreal Canadiens NHL Playoff Prediction:
New York got off to a great start in the playoffs, taking care of Montreal 2-0. The defense was great, the offense looked good as well. However, Montreal will desperately want to get this one at home before heading to New York. I like the Canadiens to get the W.
4* Free NHL Game 2 Betting Pick: UNDER 5
Game 1 went to the New York Rangers in a 2-0 effort. This is going to be a tight series without a lot of goals. I like the UNDER in this one.
