This is a bit of a hidden gem of a game on Saturday night as East meets West in what could very realistically be a Stanley Cup finals preview.
The Wild and Rangers are separated by just two points, and are 5th and 7th in the NHL respectively.
New York Rangers
What can you really say about the Rangers other than they’ve been the model of consistency for years. The Rangers are going to be a sneaky pick come playoff time as they’re flying somewhat under the radar.
The Rangers sit seventh in the entire NHL, but fourth in their own division.
That’s a testament to just how good the Metropolitan has been this year, and it may end up working to the Rangers’ favour as the first wildcard spot seems like a lock, and they would meet the winner of the Atlantic, which will certainly be a weaker team than any of Washington, Columbus, or Pittsburgh.
Like their Metropolitan rivals in Columbus, the Rangers get it done with a lot of depth and a forward group that can beat you with any of their top three lines on any night.
Michael Grabner is having a career resurgence and leads the blue shirts with 27 goals. Chris Kreider isn’t far behind with 26 of his own, while JT Miller has 19, Rick Nash has 18 and Kevin Hayes has 17.
This is a team that will likely end up with two 30-goal scorers and five guys with 20 or more goals.
That is a nice spread of scoring threats.
At one point this was the hottest team in the NHL, and they used a massive run to propel themselves to the top of the Central Division.
The Wild have slipped a bit of late and come into Saturday’s contest having lost three straight.
A lot of that may have to be pointed to goalie Devan Dubnyk, who was posting Vezina calibre numbers for much of the season but may be running out gas a little bit and his play has dipped of late.
Dubnyk’s numbers are still great, with a 2.11 GAA and .930 SV%, but his last three games have been ugly as he was pulled against the Blackhawks after getting beat on the only two shots he saw.
He was beat four times by Washington, and then twice on just 23 shots against the Carolina Hurricanes.
The Wild will find their game and get back to their winning ways, but that’s going to start with Dubnyk finding his game again.

Free Columbus New York Rangers vs. Minnesota Wild NHL Hockey Prediction:
The Wild will catch the Rangers on the back half of back to back games with travel in between. I think they snap out of their losing skid Saturday night.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Minnesota Wild -1.5
With the Rangers playing Friday night, Xcel Energy Center is a very tough building to go into on the second half of back to back games. Go with the Wild in this one.
