So this has the potential of being the game of the year, two of the Eastern Conferences biggest juggernauts going head to head in a little matinee action Saturday afternoon. The line is currently rather rich in favor of the Bruins at -170 which seems a bit odd all things considered.
But the Rangers just ran 5 D because of some salary cap restrictions and the Miller suspension, and as a result they lost to the pesky Senators. This is a team who many smart hockey people in media circles are saying that the splashy additions of Tarasenko and Kane did not address some pretty fatal needs on defence that Shesterkin often makes up for.
So perhaps Vegas is privy to this?
At any rate, we’re gonna dive deep into this battle of the Beasts in the East. Let’s get after it.
Boston Bruins
The B’s are the B’s, no flaws in their lineup, they are loaded at every position including goaltending. They just held the Oilers two 2 goals the other night who are the top offence in the NHL.
Offense
The Bruins remain second in the NHL in goals for per game and 1st in the NHL is goals allowed which I will get into more down below but this gives them the best goal differential in the league.

They can do it in different ways as well which is what championship teams do, they don’t just rely on Pastrnak or Marchand to score nice goals, they get grind them out too with guys like Debrusk and Foligno.
They’re willing to get into the dirty areas of the rink and win battles and nobody can beat them usually.
Defense
Defensively they are even better which is horrifying for opponents. The pick up of Orlov has immediately paid off for them as well as he’s scored in every game in a B’s uniform.
Goaltending
To reference the earlier reference of them holding the top offence to two goals the other night, they were playing their backup.
New York Rangers
There is no doubt this team is all in now after the deadline they’ve just had. I also really like the Tyler Motte ad, a guy they had last year that they’re familiar with.
Offense
Offensively this team is incredibly gifted. They were even without Tarasenko and Kane in their lineup and with them they are an absolute wagon up front. Their depth guys are also chipping in at the right time here.
They score at a clip of 3.29 goals per game good for 11th in the NHL.
Defense
Defensively this team’s major metrics look good, but they get bailed out by their goalie a ton. Natural Stat Trick shows they give up a TON of high danger chances to opponents in all phases.
They remain 11th in the NHL in goals allowed per game and 7th in SOG allowed per game despite a lot of them being quality chances.
Goaltending
Goaltending is not an issue for this squad. Igor Shesterkin stumbled a bit out of the gate but he’s absolutely elite and there’s no two ways about it.

I really like the over in this one. Right now it sits at 5.5 at -120 and as good as these goalies are and the Bruins defence is, I still think seeing 6 goals in this game is almost a certainty.
Gimme the over.
