New Jersey
The New Jersey Devils were able to pick up a tough point at home against the Washington Capitals Saturday afternoon. The Devils led 2-1 with six minutes left in the game before the Capitals tied it up to force overtime, eventually winning in a shootout.
New Jersey now sits in 7th place in the crowded Eastern Conference, separated by only four points from the conference’s third-place team.

The Devils would be in a much more favorable spot if they could actually score some goals. New Jersey ranks 29th in goals at 2.25 per game and 30th in shots on goal with 24.4 per game.
The team has been carried all season long by goaltender Cory Schneider and the rest of the New Jersey defense.
Schneider, who was voted in as an All-Star, ranks 4th in the NHL in both GAA and save percentage.
New Jersey has also had its struggles against a tough Metropolitan Division, compiling a record of just 7-7-2. The Devils are in the midst of a two-game skid and are looking for their second win in a week against the Rangers.
New York
The Rangers stole a much-needed road win against the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday after defenseman Keith Yandle tied the game with 12 seconds left in the third period. The Rangers got the win in a shootout and moved into the No. 3 seed in the Eastern Conference.
Now the Rangers return home, a place where they’ve been nearly automatic with a 19-5-2 record.

Derick Brassard and Mats Zuccarello, New York’s two leading scorers, have combined for 77 points this season.
Those points have been especially noticeable at home as the Rangers have outscored their last six home opponents 24-14 while posting a 5-1 record. Offensively, New York ranks 5th in goals with 2.86 per game and 4th in shooting percentage.
Goaltender Henrik Lundqvist, the face of the Rangers, is expected to get the start in this contest. He comes in with a 24-14-4 record, a 2.42 GAA and a save percentage of .920.

The Rangers picked up a huge road win against a divisional opponent, and now they return home to a place where they don’t lose very often. New Jersey has been playing better than expected this season and possesses one of the NHL’s best defenses, but it’s tough to beat the Rangers in New York City.
