The New Jersey Devils, coming off of two straight wins, will look to do what few teams have this season and get the best of the Minnesota Wild in the Xcel Energy Center.
The Wild, winners of four straight and five out of six, will look to get what should be a straightforward win against an inferior New Jersey squad.
New Jersey Devils
The Devils are not a very good hockey team and it doesn’t help that they play in the toughest division in the league, the Metropolitan. Sitting 7th in the Metropolitan, the Devils’ playoff hopes are all but over.

The Devils are 2-2-2 in their last six games and haven’t been able to get things going on either side of the ice. The defense played well the last two games, giving up just one goal in each game, but the offense still couldn’t really get going and was only able to give the Devils two goals in each.
New Jersey simply can’t score consistently and it puts a lot of pressure on the defensive side of the game. This has caused problems for the Devils, as they rank 22nd in goals against on the season with 129.
With only 101 goals on the season, New Jersey is ranked 27th in that category and the lack of offense has sullied multiple solid defensive efforts.
Taylor Hall and P.A. Parenteau have been the only Devils to provide consistent bursts of offense but they won’t be able to beat Minnesota alone.
Minnesota Wild
The Wild have been virtually unstoppable since the beginning of December. Minnesota has lost just three times since the final month of 2016 began, and two of those were OT losses.
The Wild have been fantastic on both sides of the ice and are playing some brilliant hockey.
The defense has been wonderful all year, allowing just 92 goals all season. That’s good enough for 2nd best in the NHL in that category and explains why the Wild are winning so much.
The defense, and solid goaltending from Devan Dubnyk, have frustrated even the best offensive teams.

The offense has really turned things on recently as well and the Wild are 4th in the league in goals scored. With 138 on the year, Minnesota has emerged as a very good team in the offensive zone.
Minnesota has six different skaters in double figures in goals on the year, including Eric Staal. Staal leads the team with 15 goals and also has 24 assists.
He has two goals and four assists in his last five games.
NHL Betting Trends:
- The Total has gone UNDER in four of New Jersey’s last five games
- Minnesota is 1-4 ATS in the last five games
