Columbus has been the Cinderella story of the NHL this season, right alongside the Minnesota Wild. CBJ currently sits in 2nd in the heavy-hitting Metro Division, firmly locked into a playoff spot.
They’ll take on a New Jersey team at the bottom of the division, one with a lot of holes that will need to be addressed in the off-season.
New Jersey Devils
The Devils have a number of holes to fill throughout the lineup in front of stalwart goaltender, Cory Schneider.
The deal that sent Adam Larsson to Edmonton for Taylor Hall made more of an impact on the blueline than anticipated.
The team sits 22nd overall in goals against, allowing an average of 2.8 per game. Their leading defenseman on the stat sheet, Damon Severson and his 27 points, also carries a dreadful minus-29 rating on the year.

Hall was acquired to help boost the ineffective scoring unit in New Jersey, and though he is in the lead for team with 42 points on the year in 55 games, the Devils sit 29th overall in goals per game at 2.3.
The only 20-goal scorer on the Devils is Kyle Palmieri, who has 20 goals and 42 points on the year as well, though in 63 games played.
Cory Schneider certainly hasn’t had the best season of his career, owning a 2.65 GAA and a .914 SV% with 19 wins.
However, the context of the weak team in front of him needs to be factored in when considering his season as a whole.
Columbus Blue Jackets
Columbus is on the other end of the season spectrum from New Jersey in 2016-17. The Blue Jackets rank 5th overall in goals per game at 3.2, and 2nd overall in goals against at 2.3.
John Tortorella has managed to get the most out of his team, and in turn sees his name in consideration for the Jack Adams in all likelihood.
Cam Atkinson has broken out in a big way this season, netting 29 goals and 55 points on the year to lead Columbus on the scoresheet.
Atkinson sits just outside of the top-5 in goal-scoring in the NHL.
Line mate, rookie Alexander Wennberg, is having an excellent rookie season and sits second in Jackets’ scoring with 52 points of his own.
The backend has received a large boost from fellow rookie, Zach Werenski, who may hear his name in the rookie-of-the-year voting if his strong season continues.
Werenski has nine goals and 39 points on the season, with a plus-17 rating, he, along with Ryan Murray and Seth Jones, form an excellent young trio of defenders to anchor CBJ for many years to come.

In keeping with the theme of awards, Sergei Bobrovsky has put together a season that is worthy of some Vezina nominations.
Bobrovsky owns a 2.09 GAA, which is third best in the league, and a .929 SV%, which is good for fifth best. His 34 wins place him second in the category behind Devan Dubnyk.

Columbus should have no problem handling the New Jersey Devils, who are essentially just playing for pride at this point. The Devils made no big moves at the trade deadline, and will look toward the summer to address the areas of need.
The Blue Jackets best the Devils in all aspects of the game, from the net out.
