The Nashville Predators are in the thick of a Western Conference playoff hunt, with 47 points on the year that places them 4th in the Central Division and one point out of a wild card spot at the time of writing.
The Preds sit one point ahead of the Canucks, who are 5th in the Pacific Division but have managed to string together some wins and drag themselves into the mix for a wildcard battle as well.
Nashville Predators
Centerman, Ryan Johansen, sits atop the Preds point list with 30 in 43 games played this season.
While Nashville obviously doesn’t have any one player amongst the league leaders in points, they have a balanced attack amongst their top-three lines and currently rank 14th in goals per game at 2.7.
The Preds have seven players that have 20 or more points on the season, with Filip Forsberg being the next behind Johansen with his 27.

James Neal, while only tallying 20 total points, has netted 14 goals which leads the team in the category.
Losing star blueliner, PK Subban, to injury in mid-December certainly has hurt the club and changes the dynamic of the attack, especially on the powerplay.
Before going down to an upper body injury, the new Pred had registered seven goals and 17 points in 29 games played. He’s resumed skating and is considered questionable to play.
The Preds goaltending has been excellent once again this year, with Pekka Rinne owning a .920 SV% and 2.40 GAA in his 33 games played.
When spelled, Juuse Saros has stepped in nicely, and currently owns an incredible .957 SV% and 1.25 GAA across his eight appearances.
Vancouver Canucks
The Canucks have somehow managed to pull themselves from being amongst the worst in the West to now fighting for a wildcard spot.
A six-game winning streak at the end of 2016 and into January helped them jump up in the standings, they have lost three in a row since.
Despite their nice run, which included a six-game, Vancouver still ranks in the bottom third in most of the major metrics in terms of overall team categories.
The clubs grades out 25th overall in goals per game (2.4), 20th overall in goals against (2.8), 27th on the powerplay (13.4%) and 21st on the penalty kill (21st).
So while their nice six game streak was helpful in the short term, there are greater concerns for the club in the long-run and it may have provided some false hope for an aging team that looks in great need of a retooling.
Leading the way is young pivot, Bo Horvat, who will see his rookie-deal expire in the summer and is setting himself up for a nice off-season payday. Horvat has scored 13 goals and 30 overall points on the year, both marks leading the club.

Veteran netminder, Ryan Miller, is in his final year of a three-year, $18-million deal and could be a nice trade chip for the Canucks.
Miller owns a .914 SV% and a 2.64 GAA on the year, and would provide a solid veteran presence between the pipes for a contending team in need of some goaltending help.

Free Nashville Predators vs. Vancouver Canucks NHL Hockey Prediction:
The Canucks put together a nice run at the turn of calendar year, but it appears to have been fool’s gold. Looking into the numbers closer, Vancouver appears to be in serious need of a retooling and infusing their roster with some more youthful scoring touch.
Nashville has made some astute deals in recent years, acquiring young talent such as Ryan Johansen, PK Subban, Filip Forsberg and James Neal, who comprise a solid young core to build around.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Under 5.5
Neither of these two teams, however, have filled up the point sheet with ease, but each has received solid goaltending efforts and now that Vancouver has a healthy defensive unit, this game likely sets up for a defensive battle.
