Sitting at 6th in the always tough Central Division, the Nashville Predators go on the road to meet the Metropolitan Division New Jersey Devils.
Currently 7th in the Metro Division, the Devils are looking to break a six-game losing streak and find a way to stay relevant in the top division in the NHL.
After going 9-4-4 in the month of November, the Predators have fallen off in December. With just two wins through eight games this month, Nashville has slipped to 6th place in the Central Division.
The major problem has been winning on the road.
The Preds sit a 3-9-2 on the road this season, one of the worst road records in the league, and it’s going to be really difficult for Nashville to get back to the playoffs if this dismal record away from home continues.
Star defenseman P.K. Subban will miss the game against the Devils with an upper body injury. It hasn’t been a fun year for Nashville when it comes to injuries.
Miikka Salomaki has missed all but two games this season with a lower body injury and defenseman Anthony Bitetto is on the injured reserve list with a broken hand.
Injuries have been a major factor in the average team play of the Preds. The team sits 13th in goals for and 14th in goals against, and really hasn’t been able to win a lot of games by a multiple-goal margin.
New Jersey Devils
Currently on a six game losing streak, the New Jersey Devils are already in danger of becoming irrelevant in the Metropolitan Division.
The Devils sit 16 points behind the first-place New York Rangers and will need a complete and immediate turnaround to have any shot at the playoffs this year.
During the losing streak, the defense has been horrendous. The Devils have given up 25 goals in the last six games, including three five-goal games. New Jersey is 22nd in the NHL in goals against.
It hasn’t helped that the Devils’ offense can’t score, along with not being able to defend. In the losing streak, New Jersey has just eight total goals. That’s a minus-17 goal differential in those six games. New Jersey is fourth worst in the league in goal scoring.
Star acquisition Taylor Hall got off to a good start this year. However, his past five games have been extremely disappointing for him. He has just one assist, and no goals, in the last five games.
The Devils need someone to step up and contribute offense. Otherwise, there’s no chance of beating the Predators. Clearly, New Jersey won’t be able to get it done on the defensive end.
NHL Betting Trends:
- Nashville is 1-7 ATS in its last eight games
- The OVER is 3-2 in Nashville’s last five games
Free Nashville Predators vs. New Jersey Devils NHL Hockey Prediction:
Nashville may have an extremely poor road record this year. However, the Preds can absolutely go into New Jersey and take a W from the Devils.
Considering how poor all-around that the Devils are, this shouldn’t be too tough of a game for Nashville.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Over 5
New Jersey has given up 25 goals in its last six games. A good night from Nashville should see them put up four or five goals by themselves.
