It’s always fun when two teams who’ve swapped star players square off, which is exactly what will happen Thursday night in Montreal.
P.K Subban and the Predators will be looking to take some points from Shea Weber and the Habs as each team looks to protect their playoff seeding as we move into the final quarter of regular season play.
Weber leads the Habs in +/- and is third on team scoring, while Subban has the worst +/- of any Predator blue-liner so far this year.
Nashville Predators
The Predators come into this game with a 6 point lead on St. Louis for 3rd spot, having played one more game.
Nashville won’t be catching Chicago or Minnesota for either of the top two spots in the division, but a poor stretch of hockey could bump them down to a wild card spot or worse.
If St. Louis and L.A go on a hot streak and the Predators don’t play good hockey down the stretch, they run the risk of finding themselves on the outside looking in come playoff time.

The Preds have a lot going for them that should prevent that from happening however. They finished February by winning four straight, including a 5-2 win over Washington on Saturday, giving them momentum heading to Montreal.
Strong play from 22-year old Filip Forsberg should have him back in the 30-goal club for the second year in a row. 34-year old Pekka Rinne has been consistently above average throughout his career, with this year being no different.
He is currently posting a .914 SV% with a 2.55 GAA.
Subban had to miss the first Preds vs. Habs game on January 3rd this year. He was out with an upper body injury at the time, but he will be in the lineup for his return to the Bell Centre Thursday night, which should be interesting.
Montreal Canadiens
Technically the Montreal Canadiens finished February without a win in regulation time, marking the first time the franchise has ever accomplished this maligned feat. It sounds worse than it is though.
The Habs actually won 6 games in February, its just they all came in either a shootout or OT. After dropping 5 of 7 to start the month however, the Habs opted to sack Michel Therrien and hire ex-Bruins head coach Claude Julien.
Since then they have won 4 of 6, albeit they needed extra time for each win.
Coming into the game with the Predators, the Habs have won 3 straight, which should have them feeling good despite the turbulent month.

Scoring goals has been a problem for Montreal as of late, though having a goalie like Carey Price often makes up for this. Such was the case Tuesday night when he stopped 26 shots and they beat Columbus 1-0 in overtime.
Shea Weber, a potential Norris trophy winner this year, will be looking to ensure Montreal fans know they got the better end of this summer’s blockbuster trade, but there is no telling what P.K Subban does in his return to the city he played in for 7 seasons.
NHL Betting Trends:
- Preds have won 4 in a row
- Canadiens have won 3 in a row
- Canadiens won 2-1 in OT last meeting
- Nashville is 13-15-2 on the road this year
- Montreal is 19-9-4 at home this year
Free Nashville Predators vs. Montreal Canadiens NHL Hockey Prediction:
This feels like a bigger game for the Habs than it does the Preds. Also, Price is going through one of those periods where he makes it very clear he can dominate a game when he wants to.
This is a game where he’ll want to. I can’t see the Predators getting enough by Price to come away from this game with any points.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Montreal ML
The Canadiens seem reinvigorated since the coaching change a couple of weeks ago. They are looking to re-discover what their team is all about before the playoffs, and I don’t like how that stacks up for their upcoming opponents.
