The Nashville Predators are in a huge bounce back game after blowing a 2-0 1st period lead en route to a 2-4 loss to Dallas in front of a national audience at the 2020 Winter Classic.
The defeat vs. the Stars at the Cotton Bowl was the 3rd in a row for the Predators. Peter Laviolette’s team has almost inconceivably slipped into a tie for the Blackhawks for last place in the Central.

Despite the Preds’ recent struggles, they are still -135 favorites on the road at the Staples Center Saturday night. Oddsmakers are expecting a defensive struggle as well with a total of just 5.5.
Nashville Predators
Nashville is in a rut, there’s no two ways around it. This is a team that has made the playoffs the last 5 years and being on the outside looking in at the halfway point of the year is a real test to players’ psyche.
Taking a step back though, the Predators’ three game losing streak isn’t as bad as it seems. Two of those defeats came to Metropolitan contender Pittsburgh and the other was in the awkward outdoor game in Dallas.
Nashville had gone 4-0-1 in their previous 5 before the recent skid. That includes wins over quality teams at Boston, at the Islanders, and home vs. Arizona.
It’s been the Predators defense that has caused their concerns as of late. Nashville has given up 4+goals in 4 of the last 6. Pekka Rinne and his .893 save % has become a liability for Nashville.
Los Angeles Kings
If the Kings were ever to pull off a nice rewarding upset win it would be Saturday night against a Predators team playing their 3rd straight road game.
Of course there are some problems with backing L.A. in this one, most notably the fact that Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick’s .894 is just slightly ahead of the struggling Rinne for Nashville.
L.A. has won 2 out of 3 overall, but have also lost 4 of their last 6. The Kings’ #28 ranked scoring offense has been held to 2 goals or less in 4 of those 6 games.
Los Angeles may have an advantage being at home in this one. The Kings are 5-3-2 in their last 10 which is an impressive feat considering only 2 of those games have been at the Staples Center.
