Both the Predators and Oilers are in the midst of down seasons. The teams are actually very similar record-wise, with Edmonton’s 53 points being slightly higher than Nashville’s 49.
It is therefore a somewhat interesting line to make the Oilers a home underdog on Tuesday. Nashville will have the goaltending edge in this one, but Edmonton hasn’t been playing bad lately.

Another reason to maybe give Edmonton a lean is because they are at home for the first time in ages. The Oilers have yet to play a game at the Rogers Centre so far in the 2020 calendar year.
Nashville Predators
The Preds have hit some rough patches as of late. They were lucky to get a win Sunday in Winnipeg by a 1-0 score. It was Juuse Saros that navigated that SO and not even top goaltender Pekka Rinne.
Prior to the victory over the Jets, Nashville had lost 5 of their last 7. They have allowed 4+ goals in each of those five losses. The Preds may also be getting a bit road weary with away tilts in 6 of their last 7.
Schedule makers haven’t done Nashville any favors with their travel the last two weeks. They have gone from Pittsburgh to Dallas to LA to Anaheim then back home before visits to Chicago and Winnipeg.
Nashville has been jet setting a lot lately, but they are a good road team 10-8-3 on the year. Rinne is expected to be back in net but his save percentage is just .895 on the year. Lucky for him the Preds defense is 4th in SOG allowed.
Edmonton Oilers
Edmonton knows a thing or two about travel as they just wrapped up a 5-game road swing. The Oilers were underdogs in every one of those games but ended up with a solid 3-1-1 mark.
Strangely enough Edmonton may actually play better on the road as they have lost 8 of their last 11 games at Rogers Centre. Either way the Oilers are putting up some good scoring numbers with 4+ in 4 of 6.
As expected Connor McDavid has led the recent run with 7 points in the last 4 games. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins has 3 goals the last 2 games, and is expected to play Tuesday despite an illness.
Mike Smith is the early projected starter in net for Edmonton, riding a personal 3-game win streak. The Oilers could turn to Smith instead of Mikko Koskinen, who has given up 13 goals in his last three starts.
NHL Betting Trends:
- Predators are 1-4 last 5 vs. team with a winning record
- Oilers are 3-8 last 11 home games
- Favorite is 12-3 last 15 head to head meetings
- Predators are 7-0 last 7 in Edmonton
Free Nashville Predators vs. Edmonton Oilers NHL Prediction:
The Predators have owned this series with wins in 9 of the last 10. That includes an impressive 7-game win streak in Edmonton. Nashville’s defense is very hit or miss, allowing 2 goals or less in 3 of 5 and then 11 total in the other 2.
Edmonton has one of those offenses that makes a team ‘miss’ more than hit. The Oilers should have an energy boost being back home for the first time since New Year’s Eve, especially against a Nashville team that has traveled tons lately.
