The Nashville Predators head to Columbus to face the Blue Jackets in just their second game back from their bye week. With about 20 games left in the regular season, these two points are critical for each team as they make their push for the playoffs.
The Predators headed into their bye week with an impressive come-from-behind win against the Dallas Stars, erasing a two-goal Dallas lead in the third period.
The Preds have played well at times this season, though they haven’t shown that magic that made them so special just two years ago.
Pekka Rinne has played much better lately, and his .920 save percentage is tied for 9th in the NHL with fellow netminders Cam Talbot and John Gibson.
At the age of 34, Rinne is playing about as well as the Preds were hoping.
Consistency has hamstrung the Preds this year, and they continue to show that as the season progresses. Nashville is 4-5 SU in its last nine games, and the team hasn’t won back-to-back games since Jan. 22.
They’ll now face a Columbus team that’s won three of its last four and is right behind Pittsburgh and Washington in the Metropolitan Division.
Columbus Blue Jackets
Don’t look now, but the Blue Jackets are only a point behind the Pittsburgh Penguins for 2nd place in the Metro. Despite playing .500 hockey over the last six weeks, the Jackets have won three of their last four and are making a charge in their incredibly tough division.
Goaltending has been the catalyst of this recent run. Between Sergei Bobrovsky and Joonas Korpisalo, Columbus has allowed 12 goals over their last six contests (2.00 goals per game), which has taken the pressure off the team’s 5th-ranked offense.
On the season, Bobrovsky is tied for the league lead in wins (31), ranks 4th in GAA (2.17) and is tied for 4th in save percentage (.926).
The Jackets have also played well at home with a record of 21-8-1, though they’ve played even better against Western Conference opponents. Columbus is 16-5-3 vs. the West, whereas the Preds are only 9-8-5 vs. the East.
With 2nd place within their grasp, Columbus realizes how important these two points are.

Free Nashville Predators vs. Columbus Blue Jackets NHL Hockey Prediction:
The Predators are looking to create some separation with the Kings, Flames and Blues as the regular season winds down, but they’ll be in for a challenge against one of the NHL’s best teams.
The Jackets have played well over the last week and are starting to show signs of life for the first time since their 15-game winning streak came to an end in the beginning of January.
