NHL Betting Total: 6
Both the Canadiens and the Canucks are stuck in the middle of the pack in the North, but that could change if Vancouver keeps surging, as they are on a 3-game win streak.
There’s good value on the Canucks as home +130 underdogs as they’ve scored points in six of their last 10 overall. Plus there’s a good chance any game with Montreal goes to OT, as 5 of their last 8 have.
Montreal Canadiens
The Canadiens don’t do much when they get there, but forcing OT still gets a team a point which Montreal has been able to do in 6 of their last 8 overall. The Canadiens are 11-6-7 on the year.
Dominique Ducharme’s team actually only has one true road loss this season, 3-6 at Winnipeg on February 25th. Their 1-2 loss to Vancouver on Monday ended on a shootout.
The Canadiens are now 4-0-2 against Vancouver this year, which includes a 2-0-1 trip to Rogers Arena earlier this season. In that three game road swing, Montreal managed 17 goals. Monday’s game being low scoring was an anomaly.
Carey Price did his job in net for Montreal last time out, stopping 28 of 29 Vancouver SOG. Price is on a roll, allowing just one goal in each of his last three starts. Maybe Wednesday’s tilt will be low scoring too.
Vancouver Canucks
Vancouver rattled off a 4-game win streak earlier in the season, but three of those came against beleaguered Ottawa. The 3-game run that the Canucks are on now includes two wins over first place Toronto.
So the Canucks are playing good, as they’ve won 4 of their last 5 overall which also includes a win at Winnipeg. Vancouver has put together this run mostly with defense, as they’ve allowed 2 goals or less in each of the four wins.
Most of that has been Thatcher Demko in net, as he’s allowed four goals total in his last four starts. Shutting down Montreal on Monday was huge for Demko, as he allowed 11 total to the Canadiens in two prior starts.
The Canucks have two nights off after this game, so it will likely be Demko in net again. The only goal he allowed on Monday came on the power play, otherwise stopping 29 of 30 SOG.
NHL Betting Trends:
- Canadiens are 2-7 last 9 overall
- Canadiens are 2-8 last 10 as a favorite
- Canadiens are 0-5 last 5 road games
- Canucks are 4-1 last 5 overall
- Under is 5-1 in Canucks last 6 overall
- Canadiens are 6-2 last 8 in Vancouver
Free Montreal Canadiens vs. Vancouver Canucks NHL Prediction:
It’s hard not to like Vancouver here, as they’re on a roll with three straight wins including two over the Maple Leafs. Montreal had owned the Canucks this year prior to Monday though.
What this should be is another great goaltending matchup. Demko and Price are both zoned in right now and that seems to be the play.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Under 6
As long as Demko and Price get the start, defense looks to be in control.
