The feature game on Hockey Night in Canada this Saturday evening will feature two Canadian clubs that have surpassed expectations to date. Both the Habs and the ‘Nucks have been playing above their heads, and the weird thing is, it sort of looks like it could continue. It’ll be a nice match-up of two opponents that were supposed to be featherweights but are playing more like middleweights or light heavyweights. Who packs the strongest punch in Rogers Arena on national TV?
The Habs weathered the storm when superstar goalie Carey Price was dinged up and/or not playing well; when his game rounds into form, the result should be that Montreal stays in the playoff conversation. The trade that sent Alex Galchenyuk to Arizona in exchange for Max Domi has totally come up trumps for the Canadiens. Domi has been a force, and joins with a rejuvenated Tomas Tatar, shipped over from Vegas in exchange for mercurial captain Max Pacioretty.

Montreal general manager Marc Bergevin has taken a lot of heat in the past, some of it well-deserved, but these two moves have been paying dividends for Les bleues, blancs et rouge. Montreal’s 23 points put them only behind superpowers Tampa Bay and Toronto in the Atlantic division. Jonathan Drouin and Brendan Gallagher have also chipped in some nice secondary scoring. They’ll look to keep things rolling on the road over the weekend.
Here’s another club that is riding in a coach that was supposed to be a pumpkin. Vancouver is an amazing second in a strong Pacific division, making head coach Travis Green look like a visionary. The downside is after a sizzling start, the Canucks haven’t been good lately, dropping their last four contests. This is a real statement game for Vancouver to put some wind back in its sails in their barn.
While Van City’s offense has been entertaining, the goaltending duo of Jacob Markstrom and backup Anders Nilsson hasn’t been good enough, surrendering three and a half goals per game on average, ranking a paltry 29th in the NHL. With a white-hot Domi and Tatar coming to town, that doesn’t bode well.
For Vancouver to get back in the win column, it’ll need a lot of oomph from top scorer Bo Horvat as well as sublimely talented rookie Elias Pettersson. Make no mistake: they’re capable of it.

Free Montreal Canadiens vs. Vancouver Canucks NHL Prediction:
The Canadiens have certainly been in better form than the home side recently, but this means Vancouver has its back against the wall to get a result. I could see the cork getting out of the bottle for one or both of these teams’ offenses on Saturday night.
It’s always hard to discount Price if he’s making stops, but as good as he is, between injuries and just general struggles, he hasn’t been as consistent in the past couple years as he was earlier in his career.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Odds Currently OFF
I have a feeling the Canucks can summon what they need to get the job done in front of their passionate home fans.
