Both the Canadiens and the Penguins are coming off loses to a tough opponent in their last time out. Montreal lost to the Boston Bruins on Monday night by a final score of 4-1 while the Penguins lost to the Lightning in a tough 1-2 battle on Wednesday.
The Canadiens will not be thrilled with that outcome against their rival Bruins, in a game that saw 12 penalties there was palpable tension in the air as the Bruins, especially David Pasternak who recorded a hat trick, kept pouring it on. Montreal was less than effective on offense on Monday with their only goal coming off a deflection.
The Penguins will be equally as disappointed with their last result, losing a playoff like game vs the Islanded, that moves them to 0-3 against the Islanders in the regular season series. In a game where they scored a powerplay early, Pittsburgh gave up the lead in the 3rd and lost it in OT.
Stat to know: In their last matchup in early January there were 4 penalties a piece, resulting in zero goals for each side.

The Canadiens currently sit at 5th in the Atlantic Division and have had an up and down year thus far. After a brutal 8 game losing streak they have since recovered and are looking to become a force to reckon with down the stretch.
They will have to do so however without their captain Shea Weber who was put on the IR about a week ago. With Weber’s return being pushed back the team looks to hold their position or perhaps improve while their star is away.
Montreal is led in goals and assists by Tomas Tatar who has a total of 54 points thus far this year. While they are a modest 17th in league in goals per game (3.05) they do now how to put pucks on net as they are FIRST in the league with shots per game (34.26).
Pittsburgh comes into this Friday night matchup just 3 points back of the Capitals for first place in the Metro division.
The Penguins have also had their fair share of injuries but unlike the Canadians they will have their captain on the ice with them as Crosby looks to lead his team after a tough loss.
The Pens also have a new weapon to show off as Jason Zucker will play in his second game with the squad since being acquired from Minnesota. In his first game with the Lightning he was on first line with Crosby and recorded 5 shots and 0 points.
When being asked if the second game would be less hectic he said, “Yeah. Absolutely…. I think it will be a lot better to have a full game day and go through a normal routine.”
Look for the new gunner and Crosby to put the pressure on Montreal’s defense and begin to have a feel for each other on the ice.

Free Montreal Canadiens vs. Pittsburgh Penguins NHL Prediction:
This game is going to be a shot heavy night with two teams that will certainly be frustrated with their last performance. There is no denying that Pittsburgh is the more talented team here but I think the real value lies with the under with both teams relying more heavily on their offense this year.
