The Habs fought off elimination on Wednesday with a five-goal effort, forcing a game six tonight in Toronto. Meanwhile, the Flyers will be looking to finish off this hard-fought series.
The Flyers have opened up as slight favorites, but Vegas is seeing 51% of the early bets on the Canadiens (via Action Network).
Montreal Canadiens
The Canadiens ended Wednesday’s game five with their second five-goal performance of the series. Joel Armia dumped in two goals and three other Canadiens scored in the win.
Carey Price has been excellent, per usual. The 33-year-old goalie is leading all bubble goalies in save percentage (.943) and has tallied 250 total saves since the qualifying rounds began. Price has very effective in this series, as the Flyers hadn’t scored more than two goals in the first four games.
The Canadiens talented young center, Nick Suzuki, has been excellent so far in this series (1 goal, 2 assists, +2). Him and RW Armia (3 goals, +5) will need to continue to play well if the Canadiens expect to play a game seven.
Philadelphia Flyers
The one-seeded Flyers find themselves in an unusual spot; a game six matchup with their eight-seeded counterparts.
Jakub Voracek has been dominant so far. The 30-year-old RW has poured in four goals and added two assists for six points through five games. That includes two power-play goals he added during Wednesday’s matchup.
Carter Hart played poorly in game five, eventually getting benched in the third period in favor of backup Brian Elliot. But, Hart has still played excellent this series, shutting out the Canadiens in the two games prior to Wednesday. He’s tallied 129 total saves on 138 total Canadiens shots so far.
NHL Betting Trends:
- Philadelphia are 15-3 in their last 18 games straight up
- Philadelphia are 15-10 SU in their last 15 games against Montreal
Free Montreal Canadiens vs. Philadelphia Flyers NHL Prediction:
The Canadiens have played tough and managed to win a few high-scoring games.
However, the Flyers defense has been dominant in this recent bubble stretch, as the over is 1-8-1 in the Flyers last 10 games. Additionally, I expect a big bounce-back performance from Hart after his pathetic outing Wednesday night.
At the current total and price, I would lean the over. However, all the trends and statistics point towards the under. So, I will be staying away from that number.
Look for Voracek and company to outplay Montreal on their way to a second-round matchup with Tampa Bay.
