The Montreal Canadiens, coming off of two straight losses, will look to get back to their winning ways against a struggling New Jersey squad.
The Devils, trying to simply stay relevant in the very tough Metropolitan Division, will look to hold off the very talented offense of the Canadiens.
Montreal Canadiens
Montreal has been a fantastic team all season and, despite the last couple of losses, are playing well on both sides of the ice.
Offensively, the Canadiens have scored the 5th most goals in the league (139). A lot of that has to do with captain Max Pacioretty. He has 20 goals and 17 assists on the season. He has a goal and two assists over his last five games.
Winger Paul Byron has been helpful on the goal-scoring front as well. He has 13 goals and 14 assists on the season. Like Pacioretty, he has a goal and two assists over the previous five contests.
Defensively, the Canadiens have been solid as well, giving up a total of 117 goals on the year. Giving up an average of just 2.54 goals per game, Montreal has been able to stifle top-tier offensive players and gut out wins.

To beat the Devils, Montreal will need to play a simple game, focusing on staying in the offensive zone and limiting New Jersey’s shots on goal.
New Jersey Devils
Against a good team like Montreal, New Jersey is going to have to pull out all the stops. The team isn’t very good on offense, and the defense has been better recently, but still not great.
New Jersey’s defense hasn’t been great this year. The team is 21th in the NHL in goals against and has given up 132 goals on the year. This doesn’t lead to a lot of wins especially when you see that the team has only scored 105 on the year.
That minus-27 goal differential has really put this Devils team in tough spots. New Jersey is 27th in the league in goals scored and just doesn’t have the weapons to really get things done on the offensive end.
Taylor Hall continues to be an important piece for the Devils, but even he isn’t having as good of a season as the New Jersey faithful hoped for. He has 11 goals on the year, including two over his last five games.
Right winger P.A. Parenteau has been solid as well. He has 12 goals and eight assists this year, including two goals over the last five games.
