Two high-flying offenses that have both been raising eyebrows this season meet in the Mile High City on Wednesday night. The visiting Habs have been playing better than anyone gave them credit for, while Denver’s own Avalanche has definitely earned themselves as many omelettes as they want to eat.
Montreal Canadiens
Newly-acquired Max Domi continues to amaze for Montreal. When Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin traded promising Russo-American Alex Galchenyuk to Arizona for Domi, people panned the move, but you’d have to say Montreal won that deal. Domi has 14 goals and is a point-per-game player so far.

Montreal just dropped an ugly one 4-0 to nemesis Boston at home on Monday night, so Canadiens faithful will be looking for a much more honest effort in Colorado mid-week. The Habs have proven they have the talent to gun with the Avs, but they need to show up and they need a steadying influence from veteran star goalie Carey Price, who hasn’t always been where he needs to be in 2018-19. Yikes.
Colorado Avalanche
Who cares if the Avs are a one-line team? That one unit, consisting of Nathan MacKinnon, Gabriel Landeskog and league scoring leader Mikko Rantanen, is so damn entertaining that it’s well worth the price of admission to the Pepsi Center. When you combine the strong goaltending of Semyon Varlamov, Colorado might be here to stay this year.

They are in the thick of the Western Conference playoff race, and this is a young team with mouthwatering potential for rookie head coach Jared Bednar. Colorado is missing depth center Alex Kerfoot, who is day-to-day with an ailment. If the top line makes enough hot fire (in the form of red goal lights) who cares?

Free Montreal Canadiens vs. Colorado Avalanche NHL Prediction:
This is a tough one to call, because all things being equal, I prefer what Colorado brings to the table, but Montreal should be desperately looking to rebound after Monday night’s piss-poor performance in the Bell Centre.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Habs ML
I’ll call for Montreal to get its offense woken up in this one, and narrowly edge the threatening Colorado squad, in hostile territory, no less.
