This Thursday the NHL returns with a big slate of games including the Canadiens traveling to the upstart Hurricanes.
The bookies are expecting the Hurricanes to get the job done here, but can the Canadiens pull off a bit of an upset and get their season off on the right foot?

The Canadiens were decent last year only missing out on the playoffs by 2 points, but were likely not as good as their record as they got to beat up on some really soft competition in the Atlantic division.

There now is some hype around this team coming into this season as they do have some extremely good players like Carey Price and Shea Weber.
It might be tough for this squad to go on the road and win on Thursday, but I am projecting them to make the playoffs as I think they will be slightly better than last year and don’t believe their division has improved all that much.
Carolina Hurricanes
The Hurricanes were great last year and shocked a bunch of people in the playoffs when they beat the defending champs in a hard fought game 7.

They then went on to the second round and swept the Islanders before falling short and being swept themselves by the Bruins. They should come into this game high on confidence and motivation as they try and prove that wasn’t a one off.
This Hurricanes team has an awesome defensive unit, but it might not matter if the Goalies don’t show up. The Canes have moved off of Scott Darling and will now go with Petr Mrazek who may not be the answer. He was decent in the regular season last year, but when it came to the playoffs he only managed a .894 save percentage.
