On Friday night the Wild and Golden Knights will play game 7 of what has been an outstanding series to this point. Vegas had a 3-1 series lead with a chance to close it out at home but failed loosing 4-2. On Wednesday night the Wild staved off elimination again winning 3-0. It all comes down to game 7.

Minnesota Wild

The Minnesota Wild will be thrilled to have gotten this series to game 7. They looked like they were in serious trouble after dropping game 3 and 4 at home. Give them credit though they were the better team in games 5 and 6 and now will have the momentum coming into the final game.

The Wild have gotten very strong goaltending from Cam Talbot all series, he has a 2.01 GAA and a stellar .937 save percentage. He will be coming into game 7 off of a 23 save shutout in game 6. He was extremely busy but every time the puck came his way he made the saves and has given his team a shot to move on this season. Make no mistake the Wild will need Talbot to be sharp in game 7.

One way Minnesota can help their chances of moving on is with better PP play, they are 1 for 12 on the powerplay in this series. In a game where it should be close all game, converting on the powerplay could prove to be huge. Minnesota’s penalty kill will need to stay sharp they have only allowed 2 goals on 14 attempts so far. Special teams should play a big part in deciding who moves on and who goes home.

Vegas Golden Knights

The Vegas Golden Knights have let two chances of finishing up this series go by and they will be hoping they can shift momentum back in their favor early in game 7. The Knights grabbed 3 games in a row after dropping game 1 in OT. They missed out on a chance at ending this series at home and then fell in game 6 in Minnesota. Do or die tonight, there is no tomorrow, no more chances.

The Golden Knights couldn’t really get much going in game 6 they were held off the scoreboard and only mustered up 24 shots on Cam Talbot. Vegas will need to come out on Friday night and put more pucks towards the Wild net. It is hard to win games when you don’t get close to 30 shots.

Golden Knights have gotten outstanding goalie play from Marc-Andre Fleury throughout the series he has a well below 2 goals against average and a sparkling .935 save percentage. They will need a sharp effort from him in game 7 if they want to continue their season. Minnesota has all the momentum but a hot goalie can stop all momentum any given night.

Special teams will be key in game 7 as well, Vegas powerplay has only converted twice in the series sitting at 14.2 percent, but their PK has been good sitting at roughly 90%. Like I said above which ever team has the best special teams will move on in the playoffs.

Nothing beats a game 7 in any sport, but for me NHL game 7’s are AMAZING, I am genuinely excited to see who wins. I am going to lean here with the Minnesota Wild they have all the momentum in this series. Vegas had their chances to wrap this series up and they failed. Twice. Plus I can’t back a -180 favorite when they are 1-4 in their last 5 playoff games as a favorite. Take the Wild to come out on top!
