Here’s why I’m backing a Nashville ML bet below in my Wild Predators free pick & gambling prediction for this matchup.
Wild vs. Predators Gameday
The Minnesota Wild open the 2026-27 regular season Thursday night against the Nashville Predators at Bridgestone Arena. John Hynes returns behind the Minnesota bench, while Andrew Brunette leads Nashville into its home opener.
Puck drop is scheduled for 8:00 PM ET.
Minnesota finished the preseason 1-2-1, while Nashville went 1-3-0. Neither exhibition record is worth framing, but both teams have enough new pieces and opening-night questions to make the first meaningful game a much better measuring stick.
September is for experimenting; Thursday is when these Central Division points finally start costing something.
The Wild enter without defenseman Brock Faber and goaltender Filip Gustavsson, both listed among Minnesota’s injured/non-roster players to open the season. That puts more responsibility on a veteran core led by Kirill Kaprizov, Matt Boldy, Joel Eriksson Ek and Quinn Hughes.
Nashville gets the benefit of opening at home with a reshaped forward group around Filip Forsberg, Ryan O’Reilly, Steven Stamkos and Jonathan Marchessault.

The teams split four meetings last season, with Nashville winning the final matchup 2-1 at Bridgestone Arena. Three of those four games required overtime, so there wasn’t much daylight between these Central Division rivals.
Minnesota Wild vs. Nashville Predators Odds & Last 5
The opening number favors Minnesota at -144, with Nashville coming back at +124 on the moneyline.
That’s a meaningful price for a Wild team beginning the season on the road and without Faber or Gustavsson. Nashville doesn’t need to be treated like the better team on paper for +124 to become interesting.
The Predators finished their preseason with consecutive losses to Carolina, including a 6-0 defeat at Bridgestone Arena. Their lone exhibition victory came in a 3-2 overtime comeback against Tampa Bay after Matthew Wood scored twice late in the third period.
Minnesota’s four-game preseason produced one regulation win, two regulation losses and an overtime loss.
There are useful clues in those games, but opening night is where the lineups and minutes finally start looking like the ones coaches actually intend to use.

Predators Stats
Nashville’s opening roster looks considerably different from the group that finished last season. Mavrik Bourque, Ross Colton, Jack Drury, Nils Hoglander and Adam Edstrom join a forward group that still runs through Forsberg, O’Reilly, Stamkos and Marchessault.
Wood earned his place after an active preseason and gives Brunette another young scoring option.
The Predators also have plenty of experience on the blue line. Roman Josi remains the centerpiece, with Brady Skjei, Nicolas Hague, Nick Perbix and Ilya Lyubushkin among the defensemen available for opening night.
What Nashville needs is a cleaner performance than it showed against Carolina. The Predators allowed 12 goals over their final two exhibition games, and opening night against Minnesota’s top-end skill is not the ideal place to keep handing out free looks.
Wild Stats
Minnesota brings considerably more established scoring punch than its preseason record suggests. Kaprizov and Boldy headline the attack, Eriksson Ek gives the Wild strength through the middle, and offseason addition Blake Coleman adds another experienced forward to the mix.
Bobby Brink also made the opening roster after showing some finish during the preseason.
The larger adjustment comes on defense.
Faber’s absence removes one of Minnesota’s most important minute-eaters from a group still featuring Hughes, Jonas Brodin and Jared Spurgeon. Hynes has quality options, but replacing Faber’s workload isn’t a one-man assignment.
That makes Minnesota’s puck management particularly important on the road. Nashville has enough veteran finishers to punish turnovers if the Wild get careless trying to create offense through transition.
Wild vs. Predators Goalie Matchup
Minnesota enters the opener with Wallstedt and Pickard as its active goaltenders while Gustavsson remains unavailable. Wallstedt is expected to get the opening-night assignment after going 18-9-6 with a 2.61 GAA last season.
That’s a significant early responsibility.
Saros is expected at the other end for Nashville. He comes off a difficult 2025-26 season by his standards, finishing 28-22-8 with a 3.16 GAA and .894 save percentage, but his history against Minnesota is much stronger.
CP Is More Than Just Sports Picks!
“ Anybody can post a prediction. CappersPicks backs up its sports picks with opinionated matchup analysis, experienced handicappers & documented betting performance. Pad that bankroll one day at a time! ”
Saros owns a 10-3-3 career record against the Wild with a 2.50 GAA and .921 save percentage. If Nashville is going to cash as a home underdog, getting the steadier version of Saros would go a long way.
Wallstedt has the tougher situational assignment, stepping into the No. 1 role with Gustavsson sidelined and Faber missing from the defense in front of him.
That doesn’t make Minnesota fragile, but it does make the opening-night setup more interesting than the moneyline alone suggests.
Minnesota Wild vs. Nashville Predators bottom line: Minnesota owns the deeper high-end skill, but Nashville gets home ice, a favorable goaltending history and a legitimate chance to make this opener much tighter than the favorite’s price suggests.

Wild Predators Free Pick: Nashville Predators ML +124
Here is my Wild Predators free pick: I’m backing Predators ML +124.
The attraction starts with the number. Nashville is getting plus money in its own building, and I don’t need the Predators to prove they’re the better team over 84 games to cash one ticket Thursday night.
This is also the kind of opening-night spot I like in my NHL betting system. Early-season prices can lean heavily on what teams were supposed to be, while new combinations and roles haven’t had enough meaningful hockey to settle in yet.
Give me a live home underdog at +124 before the season has had time to establish a pecking order.
Nashville has a workable path if it keeps the game structured and makes Minnesota earn its offense instead of letting the Wild attack with speed. A close third period is exactly where I want the plus-money side.
The price gives us room to be wrong about which club is stronger long term. We only need Nashville to be better for one night, and Bridgestone Arena has been a difficult trip for Minnesota historically.
I’ll take my chances with the home dog to turn opening night into two points. Give me Predators ML +124.
