The up-and-down Minnesota Wild will try to start a run of consistency on Tuesday night with a quick one-game road trip to Nashville. If Minnesota can get the win in the Wild vs Nashville matchup, they can begin to string some wins together headed back to the Twin Cities for a 7-game home stand.
The Nashville Predators believe they have just as good a chance to win this meeting as Minnesota does. The Preds’ picked up 2-1 win over the Rangers on Saturday in their first game back at home after a 2-3 road stretch.
This is the first meeting of the season between these two Central division foes, with Nashville taking three of four last year while holding a 21-11 goal margin advantage.
Minnesota Wild
Minnesota had a very uncharacteristic defensive meltdown on Sunday, taking a 2-0 lead into the 3rd period at home against the Sharks but surrendering two goals in the final six minutes of regulation in an eventual 3-2 SO loss.
The Wild are back on the road, which might be a good thing considering they allowed two goals in a recent three game trip to the West Coast. One of those was a 1-0 loss to the Kings, but that defeat is on the Minnesota offense.
Minnesota’s defense is probably going to be alright on Wednesday night considering Nashville ranks 30th in the NHL in scoring. Filip Gustavson was in net for Sunday’s loss to the Sharks, but Marc-Andre Fleury should be back between the pipes trying to continue a trend of holding opponents to a goal or less in 3 of 4 starts this month.
The big concern for the Wild on Wednesday is their offense, which was shut out in back to back games earlier in the month and barely escaped in Seattle with a 1-0 win. Kirll Kaprizov had multiple goals in a 4-1 win over Anaheim last Wednesday, but that’s the only time he’s scored in the last five games.
Nashville Predators
Nashville had some of their best offensive performances of the season against the Wild in 2021/22. They had 6-2, 5-2, and 6-2 wins but missed out on the sweep with a 5-4 home loss last April.
The Predators averaged slightly higher than their 2.6 goals/game on their recent five game road trip (3.2) but still ended up just 2-3 although one of the victories was a 4-1 win in Calgary as over +200 underdogs.
Nashville has been just average at Bridgestone Arena this year at 3-3-1 after it used to be one of the best home ice advantages in the NHL. Minnesota comes in as a very good road team, one of the best in the league in fact picking up points in six of eight away from St. Paul (5-2-1).
Having had the last two nights off almost confirms that Juuse Saros will be in net for the Predators although Kevin Lankinen has started two of six games this month. Saros gave up 13 goals over a 3-game road stretch but stopped 34 of 35 Rangers shots on Sunday.

4* Free NHL Betting Pick Wild vs Nashville: Predators (Even)
All four of these games between these two teams were high scoring going ‘over’ the total. That would be a sound play on Wednesday but Minnesota games are also trending under lately.
For whatever reason the Wild just struggle in this matchup, losing 10 of the last 12 head to head. Whether that changes in 2022/23 remains to be seen but until then you stick with Nashville.
