Friday’s matchup between the Kings and Golden Knights would seem like an open and shut case with Vegas a -230 favorite. Don’t discount L.A. though, as they’ve won 4 of the last 5 in this series.
L.A. also has a bit of an advantage with Vegas playing their first game since January 26th due to COVID outbreaks. The Knights will likely be without their head coach Peter DeBoer as well.
Los Angeles Kings
The Kings are showing some improvement this season, especially on the road where they are just 2-2 on the year. 4 of LA’s last 5 games have come on the road, splitting series’ at Minnesota and St. Louis.
L.A. has now dropped two straight though, a 5-3 loss in the Twin Cities and falling 3-1 to the Ducks at home on Tuesday. The Kings are basically middle of the pack on both ends of the ice.
The Kings are looking for more production from Anze Kopitar, who has just 1 goal on the season. Drew Doughty is on a nice run with 6 points in six games, but Dustin Brown has been inconsistent as well.
One big question is who Vegas goes with in net. Jonathan Quick looks like his better days are behind him with a 3.54 GAA and just a .885 save percentage. He’s up in the rotation though with Calvin Petersen starting last time out.
Vegas Golden Knights
Vegas faces the very real threat of rink rust on Friday night as they haven’t taken the ice in 9 days since a SO win over the Blues. The Knights will likely be without their coach as well as Alex Pietrangelo for COVID concerns.
Can the Golden Knights pick up where they left off? Vegas has played an NHL low 7 games so far this year, but still have 11 points. VGK has a top 10 offense and defense.
It will also be interesting to see who the Knights start in net. They have two great options in Robin Lehner (2.95 GAA) and Marc-Andre Fleury (1.00 GAA).
