Here’s why I’m backing an OVER bet below in my Kings Sharks free pick & gambling prediction for this matchup.
Kings vs. Sharks Gameday
The Los Angeles Kings make their second stop of the season Saturday night when they visit the San Jose Sharks at SAP Center. Los Angeles is 0-1-0 after dropping its opener in Colorado, while San Jose enters 1-0-0 following an overtime win against Florida.
Puck drop is set for 7:00 PM PT and 10:00 PM ET, with the game available on ESPN+, NBC Sports California and ABTV.
Peter Laviolette’s first game behind the Kings bench turned into an 8-4 loss to the Avalanche. Los Angeles scored four times, but Colorado erupted for four second-period goals and went 4-for-5 on the power play.
Laviolette wanted more attacking hockey in Los Angeles. Game 1 certainly didn’t suffer from a shortage of attacking.
San Jose’s opener brought considerably better results and almost as much drama.
The Sharks built a three-goal lead against Florida before watching it disappear, then escaped with a 4-3 overtime victory on Luca Cagnoni’s first NHL goal.

Los Angeles Kings vs. San Jose Sharks Odds & Last 5
The opening odds make San Jose a slight home favorite. The Sharks opened -118 on the moneyline, with Los Angeles returning +100.
The puck line gives the Kings +1.5, while San Jose is laying 1.5 goals.
Los Angeles produced 31 shots in its opener but couldn’t keep pace once Colorado’s power play took over. Brian Dumoulin, Trevor Moore, Joel Armia and Artemi Panarin scored for the Kings.
San Jose received two goals and an assist from Will Smith in its opener.
Macklin Celebrini collected three assists, while Mason Marchment scored in his Sharks debut before Cagnoni ended the game in overtime.
The Sharks took two of three regular-season meetings from Los Angeles last season.
All three finished 4-3, with San Jose winning once in a shootout and once in overtime. The Kings won the other matchup in regulation, so apparently these two had already agreed one-goal games were mandatory.

Sharks Stats
San Jose’s young skill showed up immediately against the defending Eastern Conference champion Panthers.
Will Smith scored twice, including one shorthanded and one on the power play. Celebrini assisted on three goals, giving the Sharks’ young stars a productive opening night.
Luca Cagnoni delivered the biggest moment.
The 21-year-old defenseman scored his first NHL goal 3:14 into overtime and also picked up an assist. Marchment added a goal in his San Jose debut.
The Sharks weren’t nearly as tidy after building their lead.
Florida erased a 3-0 deficit with three consecutive goals, including two just 17 seconds apart early in the third period. San Jose recovered well enough to win, but Ryan Warsofsky probably didn’t order that particular route to two points.
Yaroslav Askarov made 23 saves in the opener.
Askarov is expected back in goal Saturday, although the matchup remained unconfirmed earlier in the day. He’ll face a Los Angeles team that generated enough offense in Colorado even while the other end of the ice became considerably more adventurous.
Kings Stats
Los Angeles scored four goals on 31 shots in Colorado, which would normally give a team a reasonable chance to leave town with something.
Allowing eight tends to complicate the math.
The Kings received goals from Panarin, Moore, Armia and Dumoulin. Alex Laferriere collected two assists in the loss.
Colorado did most of its damage during a brutal second period.
The Avalanche scored four times in the period and converted four of five power-play opportunities overall. Los Angeles went 0-for-4 with the man advantage.

Darcy Kuemper is expected to get another opportunity in goal Saturday.
He stopped 21 of 29 shots against Colorado, an opening line nobody will be framing for the living room. The Kings were hardly innocent in front of him, especially while trying to contain one of the league’s most dangerous power plays.
Kuemper and Askarov remain the expected matchup rather than confirmed starters.
Los Angeles Kings vs. San Jose Sharks bottom line: both clubs showed plenty of attacking intent in their openers, while neither gave its coaching staff much reason to relax once the game started opening up.
Los Angeles Kings vs. San Jose Sharks Hockey Betting Trends

Kings Sharks Free Pick: Over 6.5
Here is my Kings Sharks free pick: I’m betting Over 6.5. Seven goals is a healthy ask, but this is the kind of matchup where I want both teams playing forward instead of spending three periods protecting space.
These clubs know each other extremely well, and that familiarity can remove some of the feeling-out process.
My preferred script is a close game rather than a blowout. If neither side can create real separation, both teams have to keep attacking instead of sitting on a comfortable lead.
Give me a one-goal game in the third period and six goals starts looking considerably friendlier.
That’s where 6.5 gets interesting.
A 3-2 game late gives us several outs, including the tying goal, an empty-netter or the lovely NHL special where both arrive within 40 seconds because apparently nobody enjoys a relaxing finish.
I don’t need either goalie to implode. I want pace, pressure and a scoreboard close enough that nobody gets permission to shut the game down.
Give me Over 6.5.
