Monday night, January 7th brings you an exciting Pacific Division NHL battle as the Los Angeles Kings travel to the SAP Center to take on the San Jose Sharks. Both teams were winners last time out as the Kings beat Edmonton 4-0 and the Sharks downed the red hot Lightning 5-2. LA won the last meeting between these two a couple weeks back and would love that momentum to carry into this game. We will have to wait and see.
Los Angeles Kings
The Kings come into this game winners of only two of their last five games as they continue to try and creep their way back up to the .500 level on the year. Unfortunately, they have a long way to go to reach that plateau, and a win here on Monday night won’t be an easy task at all. The Kings have lost six out of the last 10 head to head matchups with San Jose.
Anze Kopitar is the Kings leading scorer with 10 goals and 18 assists while Dustin Brown has their overall goal scoring lead with 11 so far on the year. Jonathan Quick is the proposed starting goalie for LA, he comes in with a 7-10-2 record, a 2.88 GAA and a .902 save percentage. Thus far, the Kings are scoring an average of 2.28 goals per game while giving up an average of 2.95 goals per game.
Injury Report: C Trevor Lewis, RW Jonny Brodzinksi and D Alec Martinez are all listed as “out” for Monday night.
San Jose Sharks
San Jose is riding a fairly good stretch of hockey into this game having won four out of their last five games, including knocking Tampa Bay back down to reality on Saturday night. With their 13-4-4 record at home, another win here against the struggling Kings looks to be an almost certainty at this point.
The Sharks points leader is Brent Burns with 7 goals and 40 assists while their leading goal scorer, Joe Pavelski, has 25 on the year. Projected starting goalie Martin Jones has a 18-8-4 record with a 2.88 GAA and a .897 save percentage. The Sharks are averaging 3.49 goals per contest while they are giving up an average of 3.14 goals per game to their foes.
Injury Report: Defensemen Marc-Edouard Vlasic, Radim Simek and Justin Braun are all listed as “questionable” for Monday night.
NHL Betting Trends:
- Kings are 11-9 ATS on the road this year
- Kings are 5-14-1 O/U on the road this year
- Kings are 10-14-3 as the DOG this year
- Sharks are 9-12 ATS at home this year
- Sharks are 13-7-1 O/U at home this year
- Sharks are 21-11-7 as the FAV this year.
Free Los Angeles Kings vs. San Jose Sharks NHL Prediction:
Both of these teams are coming off of big wins over the weekend, but only one of them has been playing good throughout the season up to this point. And, frankly, I don’t see the Sharks coming down any time soon. LA won in overtime back on December 22nd, but the Sharks will win this one on home ice.
Take the Sharks to win this game, and seeing how their last few games have gone, take the OVER while you’re at it. They should have no problem beating the Kings by two goals, so the spread should be a safe bet as well.
