The Los Angeles Kings will look to continue their charge towards the postseason this Sunday as they travel to Denver for this Western Division tilt with the Colorado Avalanche.
The Avalanche will also be looking to secure a big home win, as the LA Kings are the team directly behind them in the standings sitting just 4 points back. The Avalanche had a ton of hype on them coming into the season, so they are expected to pick up wins against teams like the Kings, but they have made it look tough at times as the Aves have yet to reach their peak this season.
Los Angeles Kings
The Los Angeles Kings need to bounce back in a big way this Sunday, as they were dominated by this Avalanche team for the vast majority of the first game of this 2 game series getting out-shot 45-18 in a game they were lucky to only lose by a score of 2-0.
That type of performance has become the norm for the Kings, though, as they have only managed to pick up 2 wins in their last 8 games and for a team that has the talent that the Kings have that simply won’t cut it.There is talent that can get this team to the playoffs with guys like Anze Kopitar, Dustin Brown and Adrian Kempe playing excellent hockey.
Cal Petersen is the current projected starter for this game and he was absolutely stellar in the first game of this series stopping 44 of 45 shots, as he easily played well enough to earn a W, but hi team could not beat Phillip Grubauer on the other end of things. That performance from Petersen was not an aberration either, as he comes in here with some excellent numbers in terms of GAA (2.61) and save percentage (.920%).
Colorado Avalanche
Although Colorado maybe has not lived up to many people’s expectations they do seem to be hitting their full-stride at the correct time, as they have picked up wins in 6 of their last 9 games to put them in a decent enough spot in terms of prospective playoff positions in what is a brutally tough Western Division.
Mikko Rantanen was the hero for the Avalanche the last time these two teams met scoring a goal and an assist to add to his already impressive 25 point tally before that game. He is likely to play a big role for the Avalanche down the stretch and into the playoffs, as he continues to pay off the contract the Avalanche gave him.
Phillip Grubauer is the current projected starter and he has been awesome this year even getting a shutout in his last game, but it will be important to follow the news, as I would not be surprised if the Avalanche coaching staff decide to give him a rest here.

Free Los Angeles Kings vs. Colorado Avalanche NHL Prediction:
This should be an interesting game, but I don’t think it will be a high scoring one, and that is especially true if Grubauer gets the start. These net-minders are both solid and both of these teams have solid blue-lines which is evidenced by the way this game went lat time out with only 2 total goals.
