Coming off a 3-0 shutout loss to the New York Rangers, the Los Angeles Kings head north to Calgary to take on the fellow Pacific Division Flames.
Calgary, winners of five of the last eight, have all but solidified a place in the playoffs and will look for another Western Conference win against the LA Kings.
Los Angeles Kings
It’s been a tough year for the Los Angeles Kings, a team with fantastic defense but almost no offense. The Kings rank 5th in the league in goals against, thanks to some great goaltending from the recently traded away Peter Budaj and the return of starter Jonathan Quick.
Quick is 5-3-1 this season with a 2.20 goals against average since returning from an injury that kept him out for the majority of the season.
Los Angeles has been another story on the offensive end, ranking 27th in the league in goals scored (180). Almost all the offensive production comes from the top line and there are only two forwards with 15 or more goals.
Center Jeff Carter leads the team with 31 goals and 30 assists this season. In his last five games, he has just a single assist and hasn’t scored a goal since March 11th.
Left wing Tanner Pearson has been a strong presence for this team as well. He has 23 and 19 assists, but has just a single point (a goal) in his last five games as well.
The Calgary Flames have been the surprise of the last month, emerging as a very tough team in the Pacific Division and eyeing a Western Conference playoff spot with just a few games to go. The Flames have improved throughout the year on both offense and defense.
Calgary ranks 13th in the league in goals (211) and 14th in goals against (204). The team was in the minus column in goal differential for much of the year but has righted the ship and shown that it can win games on both ends of the ice.
After winning 10 straight games, the Flames are 4-3-0 in the last seven, but has still shown that the team can compete and the winning streak wasn’t a fluke.
Center Mikael Backlund has been great for Calgary, tallying 21 goals and 29 assists this season. He has just a single assist over his last five games, however.
Johnny Gaudreau has found his stride this season. He has 17 goals and 41 assists, including two goals and seven assists in his last five games.
NHL Betting Trends:
- Los Angeles is 3-8 ATS in the last 11 games
- The OVER is 5-2-1 in Los Angeles’s last eight games
Free Los Angeles Kings vs. Calgary Flames NHL Hockey Prediction:
Calgary has had a great stretch of play over the past two months and are poised for a playoff spot with just a few games to go. The Kings are struggling and haven’t been able to get anything going offensively. Calgary should get the W at home in this one.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: UNDER 5
With how well the Flames have played recently, it’s tough to see this team not getting its chances against a very poor Los Angeles team. However, the Kings are a staunch defensive team and should keep this game close. I’ll take the UNDER in this one.
