The Pacific Division Los Angeles Kings head cross country to Buffalo, where they’ll meet the Atlantic Division’s last place Sabres.
Both teams will be coming off a couple of days off and will be well rested and ready to go. Buffalo’s last game against the Capitals ended in a loss, while the Kings took care of the Ottawa Senators on Saturday night.
Los Angeles Kings
The Kings have played great defense throughout the season so far. They’ve allowed two or less goals in 14 of their games. The problem has been on the goal-scoring end.
The Kings have been held to two or less goals in 12 games this year and all but one has resulted in a loss. Ranked 18th in goals for in the NHL, the Kings have to find some way to score goals if they want to climb spots in the tough Pacific Division. Otherwise, a playoff run isn’t too likely.
Second-line center Jeff Carter has been the bright spot on the offense for the Kings. His 22 points (12G, 10A) lead the team and the 32-year old is on pace for an even better season than his 2015-2016 campaign.
Despite the loss of Jonathan Quick to a groin injury back on the first night of the season, the goaltending has been great. Peter Budaj (13-7-2) has a 2.18 GAA, putting him in the top 12 in the NHL.
The Kings will have to generate some consistency on the goal-scoring end and give some help to that stellar defense if they’re going to take care of the Sabres.
The Sabres have been plagued by injuries this year. Phenom Jack Eichel missed the first 21 games, but has made his presence known since returning.
He has five points in his first six games of the year and his play has reminded everyone why he was the 2nd overall draft pick in 2015.
The Sabres are playing better since Eichel’s return. In Eichel’s six games – the Sabres’ last six – the team is 3-2-1.
Unfortunately, the team is going to have a hard time putting together a win streak with all of its other injuries.
With center Tyler Ennis out while recovering from groin surgery and defenseman Zach Bogosian out with a MCL sprain and no timetable for return, the Sabres have had to patch together an already understaffed team.
The offense has been hurting the most because of these injuries. The Sabres rank dead last in goals for (56).
With Eichel back, the Sabres look a bit more lively but still need more players to step up and score.
Otherwise, there won’t be too many wins in the team’s future, including Tuesday night against the Kings.
NHL Betting Trends:
- The Total has gone UNDER in 10 of Buffalo’s last 15 games at home
- Los Angeles is 1-5 ATS in its last six games
Free Los Angeles Kings vs. Buffalo Sabres NHL Hockey Prediction:
I like the Kings to take this one on the road. Buffalo really can’t find any consistency scoring goals and haven’t been very good at home. Buffalo is just 5-6-3 in the First Niagara Center this year.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Los Angeles -115
Buffalo just isn’t a very good team. Los Angeles hasn’t been in top form but has a top 10 defense and can stifle the Sabres. Los Angeles will get the win on Tuesday.
