It’s hard to believe Dallas was a team that did not look overly impressive at the start of the season. Now the Stars are on a winning streak, and will complete a four-game home-stand Monday night against the skidding Vegas Golden Knights.

The Stars have won six straight contests and can tie the franchise record for most consecutive victories with a win over the Golden Knights.

The Golden Knights on the other hand, who looked so impressive at the start of the season, badly need a win over their Western Conference rivals

Las Vegas Golden Knights

What’s going on in Vegas these days? The Golden Knights were expected to make a strong run at the Western Conference title, yet they are now just 3-5-4 over their last 12 games,  and fourth place in the Pacific.

For the season thus far, they have earned a total of 73 goals which ranks them 5th in the Western Conference, so clearly they do still have a potent offense when it can be rallied.

Last season Las Vegas relied on a solid defence and goaltending from Marc-Andre Fluery to propel them to the playoffs. That combined with an occasionally explosive offence made them a team to be reckoned with.

It is the lack of core defensive strength that has been their undoing this season, so while the Golden Knights can still score, at the other end of the rink things are much less reliable.

Dallas Stars

The Stars have been solid in net, with strong goaltending from both Ben Bishop (2.25 GAA) and Anton Khudobin (2.15 GAA). The latter of the two,  had 38 saves in their last game versus Chicago, including a one on one Patrick Kane breakaway in overtime.

Their combined save percentage of .923 ranks the team at 3rd in the NHL. Combined with a strong defence, the Stars have won by making it extremely hard for opposing teams to find the back of the net.

The Stars have compiled a total of 67 goals for the season, which puts them at 7th in the West. Dallas, not exactly the strongest of offences, but you can’t argue with success, they’re getting the job done.

Vegas know this is an important game, they can’t wait till February to get their defence back in fighting form.

However, it would the formally stellar Fluery has lost some confidence in goal, and unlike Dallas, the Golden Knights don’t have a strong back-up to turn to.
