These two squads are each coming off monumental first-round victories even if they are viewed in different lights.
The Florida Panthers clawed back from a 3-1 deficit and did what many thought was the impossible in taking down a team coming off the greatest regular season of all-time.
Two of their three must-win victories came in overtime and goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky had to reach down deep to battle the onslaught of offense coming his way. Other than the team themselves, you’d be hard pressed to find someone who believed in this club.
In the other series, the Maple Leafs finally broke through the first round for the first time in nearly 20 years. The past years pressures had built up and, had they failed to win, the explosion would have cleaned house.
The desperation for success may be gone but the desire to win burns bright.
Florida Panthers
The Panthers organization may be taking “home ice advantage” to a whole new level for this series. The organization is restricting ticket sales for home games to fans residing in the United States only. Fans who live outside the United States are free to buy tickets on the secondary market.
Florida is coming off a hard fought series against the Bruins where they when to OT in Game 7 on the road in order to make it to round 2.
That included them winning three straight, seeing their offense come alive as they scored at least 4 goals in those three victories.
Offense
The Cats finished the first round, averaging a 5th best 3.71 goals scored per game which is up from their average at the midway point of the series.
While it was Carter Verhaeghe who scored the series winner, Matthew Tkachuk dragged this team into the fight each night. Tkachuk leads the team with 11 points overall and shares the goal lead at 5 with Brandon Montour.

Defense
On the back end, they’re 2nd in the league behind the eliminated LA Kings with a goals against average per game of 3.86. The next four teams after them have all been eliminated as well meaning the Panthers are the lone team in the bottom six that is still alive.
They’re allowing the most shots per game a 35.6 an outing through the first round.
Goaltending
Florida went to Sergei Bobrovsky for the last four games of the series and he was an absolute anchor for the team.
Bobrovsky has a 3-1 record with a 3.94 goals against average and a .891 save percentage through 5 appearances.
You’d have to think they’d go back to the well to start this round.
Toronto Maple Leafs
Between Tampa Bay and Florida this season, the Maple Leafs are 6-0-1 as a visitor in the Sunshine State.
When it comes to strictly the Panthers, Toronto holds a 3-1 series edge coming in from the regular season.
Offense
Averaging 3.83 goals per game up front, the Maple Leafs are 3rd when it comes to overall offense in the playoffs.
Toronto’s big name players with big time contracts are earning their contracts.
Mitch Marner leads the team with 11 points but it’s Auston Matthews who is tops on the team with 5 goals.
Defense
On defense, the Maple Leafs are averaging 3.50 goals against per game which ranks 7th in the postseason.
Morgan Rielly leads all defensemen on the team with 8 points through 6 playoff games.
Goaltending
Despite lacking previous playoff success, Ilya Samsonov has played well for the Maple Leafs this time around.
He has a 4-2 record with a 3.14 goals against average and a .900 save percentage.

Free Florida Panthers vs. Toronto Maple Leafs NHL Prediction
While Toronto’s play at home through 3 tries against Tampa was less than ideal, they did have a solid regular season at Scotiabank Arena.
With a 27-8-6 record this season at home, the Maple Leafs will be able to turn things around on home ice and turn up the offense against the Cats.
This game does have the potential to go the distance as five of the last six games between these clubs have hit overtime.
For Game 1, back the Leafs to get the early series lead.
