Coming off a 3-2 win over the Carolina Hurricanes, the full-strength Florida Panthers head to Philadelphia to take on the Flyers.
Philly, with just three wins in the last eight games, are reeling and need every point possible in order to make a push for the playoffs.
Florida Panthers
After three straight losses, the Florida Panthers bounced back with a win over Carolina on Tuesday night. Despite those losses, the Panthers have been a different team since Aleksander Barkov and Jonathan Huberdeau returned from injury in early February.
With those skaters in the lineup, there’s still a chance for this Florida team to make the playoffs, especially playing in a weak Atlantic Division.
Huberdeau has played extremely well, reminding people how important he was a year ago when the Panthers won the Atlantic. He has four goals and seven assists in his 11 games played this season, including three assists in his last five games.
Barkov continues to wow people during shootout situations, and has played great hockey during even strength situations as well. He has 16 goals and 22 assists, including two goals and an assist over his last five games.
Center Vincent Trocheck has been the team’s rock all season, through all the injuries for the team. In 62 games, he has 22 goals and 21 assists. He had a big goal against Carolina on Tuesday as well.
Philadelphia Flyers
The Flyers have slipped further and further in the tough Metropolitan Division. After having a decent first half of the year, Philly has played a lot of poor hockey and sits 6th in the division currently. The team simply hasn’t had it on either side of the ice.
Defensively, the Flyers give up the 5th most goals in the league with 187. On offense, the team doesn’t score enough, with just 161 goals on the year. That minus-26 goal differential doesn’t make for a lot of wins, especially when many of those games are against tough Metro Division opponents.
Wayne Simmonds has been the spark on offense for Philly all season. He has 27 goals and 17 assists in 62 games. In his last five games, he has four goals.
Brayden Schenn has been solid for the Flyers as well. He has 19 goals and 22 assists in 59 games this year. In his last five games, he has three goals and two assists.
