The New York Islanders stole one on the road against the Florida Panthers during Game 1 of their first round playoff series, and now the boys in blue and orange have a chance to take a 2-1 series lead in front of their home crowd.
The Panthers got a much-needed home win in Game 2 to even their series 1-1. Goaltender Roberto Luongo was much more efficient in net which helped catapult the Panthers to a 3-1 win.
The Panthers must improve their defense if they want to take the series lead in New York.
The Islanders put an astonishing 42 shots on net against Luongo and the Panthers in Game 2. If Luongo hadn’t been at the top of his game, the Islanders could’ve easily left Florida with a 2-0 series lead and headed back to New York with all the momentum in the world.
The Panthers need Reilly Smith to continue his dominance and really need the ageless wonder Jaromir Jagr to be more of a presence in the offensive zone if they want to steal Game 3 in Brooklyn.
New York Islanders
The Islanders were constantly playing in Florida’s zone in Game 2 and need to continue that blueprint on Sunday. New York boasted an impressive 25-11-5 record inside Barclays Center and have proved to be a dangerous team at home.
Thomas Greiss is still trying to soak in the moment as the starting goaltender of a playoff series, but he has to be much more efficient in net if he wants his team to leave Game 3 with a win. New York’s offense netted five goals in Game 1 but was held to just one in Game 2.
With an inexperienced goalie in net, the most important thing you can give him is some offensive support.
Roberto Luongo has been inconsistent all season long, so the Islanders will find the back of the net if they continue to apply the same pressure they did in Game 2.

Free Florida Panthers vs. New York Islanders NHL Hockey Prediction
The Panthers have a very good shot at winning this game, but I think the Islanders will leave with the victory.
New York put 42 shots on net in Game 2, and I’m not confident in Roberto Luongo being able to sustain much more of that kind of pressure.
The Isles’ offense fell off the wagon toward the end of the season, but Kyle Okposo and John Tavares are more than capable of bringing the unit together for a win in Game 3.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Islanders ML
Expect the Isles to treat their home crowd to a strong effort against a very good Florida Panthers team. I like New York to keep up the offensive pressure against a susceptible goaltender in Roberto Luongo.
