Oddsmakers are expecting some pucks to hit the back of the net when the Leafs and Oilers meet up for the 2nd time in the last three nights. The betting total is up there at 6.5 following Toronto’s 4-3 win on Saturday night.
Edmonton Oilers
The line for Monday’s game is very similar to Saturday’s meeting, where the Oilers were a +136 underdog. Edmonton held a 3-1 lead in the 2nd period, but Toronto kept chipping away ultimately sending the game into OT.
Auston Matthews ended things just 0:54 into the extra period to complete the comeback. The Oilers had their chances though, and against quality competition – something they haven’t faced much as of late.
Edmonton’s 7 wins in 9 games prior to Saturday’s loss may be a bit of a mirage. Five of those victories have come against the Flames and Senators, two of the three worst teams in the North.
The Oilers did get a couple wins over third place Winnipeg on Thursday and Saturday of two weeks ago. They had a week off prior to Saturday’s loss to Toronto after a series with the Canadiens was postponed for COVID.
Toronto Maple Leafs
Saturday’s victory was a nice comeback for the Maple Leafs, who didn’t fret despite getting down 3-1. They’re still not out of the woods yet though, because Toronto’s play lately has been very shaky.
The Leafs needed OT to beat Ottawa on Thursday night, and their current three game win streak also started with a 2-0 win over Calgary. That’s a couple bad teams that Toronto had also lost to on March 14th and March 19th.
Prior to their run of three straight wins, the Maple Leafs had dropped 6 of 7 prior. They should get an edge being back at Scotiabank Arena, where they are 12-6-1 on the season.
A positive note about Saturday’s win is that Toronto held the Oilers to just 20 shots on goal, and they are a top 10 team in shots against. The fact that three of those SOG slipped into the net (.850 save %) isn’t good for goaltender Jack Campbell.

Free Edmonton Oilers vs. Toronto Maple Leafs NHL Prediction:
Toronto has to like this matchup, taking 21 of the last 27 meetings between the two teams. That includes a 3-game sweep in Edmonton last month by a combined score of 13-1.
The teams did split the series in Toronto earlier this season though, which we could see a repeat of the way the Leafs have played so inconsistently as of late.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Oilers +135
Matthews’ goal on Saturday was his first in the last six games. His struggles are good for Edmonton.
