St. Louis will try to avoid a letdown game when they host Edmonton on Wednesday night. This is because the Blues scored a riveting 5-2 victory over Colorado on Monday, ending the Avs’ 9-game point streak.
It’s not like the Oilers are a team to be overlooked however. Edmonton has 42 points which ties them for 1st in the Pacific and are hungry to keep fending off Vegas (41), and Calgary (40) to name a few.
Edmonton Oilers
The Oilers are big +150 underdogs on Wednesday, mostly because they’ve been in kind of a skid lately. Edmonton dropped 5 of 6 before getting back on the right track with a 2-1 win at Dallas on Monday.
The worst part about Edmonton’s losing ways recently is that there were some bad beats mixed in there. The Oilers dropped a 2-5 home game to Edmonton two weeks ago as -210 for example. They also lost to Buffalo at -175.
Did the win at Dallas turn the momentum for Edmonton? The Oilers have scored at least 1 PP goal in 8 straight games. That being said, St. Louis has had the Oilers’ number the last 3 despite some big games from Edmonton’s stars.

The duo of Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl have 20 points in 13 total games vs. the Blues. The Oilers are still just 4-12 in the last 16 meetings in St. Louis as a team though and lost 5-2 to the Blues at home earlier in the year.
Does Edmonton go with Mikko Koskinen in net on Wednesday? He was dazzling stopping 34 of 35 Dallas shots on Monday. It was the 2nd time in the last 4 games that the Edmonton goaltender only allowed 1 goal.
St. Louis Blues
St. Louis flexed their muscles a bit on Monday, beating Colorado 5-2 as -114 home favorites. It was not only the 3rd straight victory for the Blues, but also halted a 9 game point streak for the Avs.
The win Monday gave St. Louis a 3-point padding over Colorado in the Central. The Blues have also beaten rival Chicago and surging Vegas during their recent home stand. Speaking of, St. Louis is 11-4-3 at home on the year.
The Blues seem to play better against quality opponents, and Edmonton would qualify as that. St. Louis is 8-1-1 in the division and has gone 14-2-3 against the Western Conference. The Oilers are just 3-6-1 over their last 10.
Oddsmakers are expecting a low scoring game not only because Koskinen has been on a nice run for Edmonton, but also because Jordan Binnington is the likely starter in net for the Blues.
Binnington has gone 11-3-3 at the Enterprise Center this season and has just a 2.26 GAA on his own ice. Overall Binnington’s 2.44 GAA is 12th best in the league.
NHL Betting Trends:
- Oilers are 1-4 last 5 overall
- Oilers are 1-6 last 7 following a win
- Blues are 4-1 last 5 home games
- Blues are 7-3 last 10 overall
Free St. Louis Blues vs. Edmonton Oilers NHL Prediction:
That -170 line seems crazy on the Blues but it seems like they are ready to keep their recent home streak running. The Oilers aren’t a bad play with the success that McDavid and Draisaitl have had against St. Louis though.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Over 5.5
St. Louis has scored 4+ goals in 5 of the last 7 in this head-to-head matchup. The Blues also have 4+ in each of the three games on their recent home stand. As long as the Edmonton offense isn’t completely shut down, the total looks over.
