A pair of Canadian teams square off in Montreal as the Edmonton Oilers, losers of three straight, take on the first-place Canadiens.
Edmonton Oilers
It hasn’t been a kind second half for the Edmonton Oilers, a team that finished the first half of the season with the second-best record in the Pacific Division.
Led by phenom Connor McDavid, the Oilers possessed one of the NHL’s best offenses before the All-Star Break. In three games since, however, the Oilers have combined to score a total of three goals. They’ve lost all three of those games.

McDavid’s 60 points are still the most in the NHL, but he’s going to need the rest of his mates to step it up if the Oilers want to make a deep run in the playoffs.
Cam Talbot has been much improved in net this year for Edmonton, entering this game with a 26-15-7 record. His 2.37 GAA and .920 save percentage are both very respectable, as are his four shutouts which are tied for the fifth-most in the league.
Montreal Canadiens
The Canadiens have a comfortable lead over the Ottawa Senators for first-place in the Atlantic Division. Though their 67 points is tops in the Atlantic, it’s good enough for just fourth in the Metropolitan.
Yes, the Canadiens are a good team, but can they string together enough quality hockey to beat the Penguins, Capitals and Blue Jackets?

Montreal has flirted with mediocrity over the last month, failing to win back-to-back games since the beginning of January.
Their 7th-ranked offense has been incredibly inconsistent over that span, as has goaltender Carey Price. While Price started the year at an incredible pace, he’s since cooled off and hasn’t resembled the Vezina-quality goalie we saw for the first three months of the season.
Still, the Habs’ 18-5-3 home record is one of the NHL’s best, so they’ll have that edge coming into this game.
NHL Betting Trends:
- Oilers are 15-9-5 on the road.
- Oilers are 9-11-2 vs. the Eastern Conference.
- Oilers O/U is 3-5-2 in their last 10 games.
- Canadiens are 18-5-3 at home.
- Canadiens 10-6-1 vs. the Western Conference.
Free Edmonton Oilers vs. Montreal Canadiens NHL Hockey Prediction:
The Oilers are looking to snap their three-game skid, but I’m not sure they’ll be able to do that on the road against the Canadiens.
Montreal is lights out at home and is also 6-4 on back-to-back games.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Montreal ML
I think they’ll notch another win against the slumping Oilers.
