The Oilers got embarrassed in Raleigh last night in a game where I will absolutely not defend Jack Campbell. I love the guy and I hate seeing him so upset every presser but he without question let some goals in last night they should absolutely not go in if you’re a starter in the NHL
What I would say in his defence though is that it just does not matter who is in net right now for this squad, the defence continues to be the issue. They only scored 2 goals against a potent attack, sure, but this team is just so sloppy in its own zone in every facet of the game.
I don’t know what the heck it is, they have no semblance of procedure, they can’t break it out, they always puck watch instead of taking a man. It’s the most infuriating thing to watch and I am rueing the day I decided I was going to cover this team the entire season.
Daniel Nugent Bowman, one of the Oilers beat writers from the Athletic wrote today that we have to get used to life without Kane and how no help is coming, the answer is internal. That basically ended my hope this team was a cup contender.
If he is right, which I don’t think is true honestly but he is much closer to the detail than I, than this team has no hope and we’ll get into those reasons and why they hurt for this game tomorrow night in Florida.
The Panthers are another team I have been watching and covering this year and they honestly have a lot of the same issues so this is going to be a tough one to handicap.
But, without further ado, if self-mutilation is your thing, let’s get into it.
Edmonton Oilers
I am so done with watching this organization continue to give Jesse P opportunities. He has had more than enough time to find and develop his game and he has not amounted to what they’d hoped he would and what the analytical community says he’s capable of.
Speaking of the analytics community, if they think that he is a good hockey player based on their model they may wanna rethink the model or at least hide the fact it demonstrates he is good because it’s a great argument against their philosophy.
The dude literally goes out there and just skates around. He has had a couple of games lately where he’s had shots on goal but none of them created chances off rebounds.
He doesn’t shoot particularly well, doesn’t have great hands, and doesn’t play physical. He’s a bust, please Edmonton coaching staff if this reaches you, stop playing him.
Connor McDavid continues his tear though, maybe bet him as an anytime goalscorer bet.
Florida Panthers
The Panthers have struggled with consistency much like the Oilers. They are still a good team considering how much grief I have given them but they need to start putting full games together and string together wins if they wanna hang in the east down the stretch.
One huge boost for them tomorrow night is that Matthew Tkachuk is coming back from serving his two game suspension, and they also get back their stud defenceman Aaron Ekblad from the IR.

I am not going to handicap a side here. First of all, it hurts my heart to bet the Oilers right now and lose twice.
And from a hockey and handicapping standpoint it’s just not smart to bet them right now with the issues they have. But the exact same thing applies to the Panthers as well.
The Tkachuk and Ekblad additions to the Panthers lineup also makes me nervous as we are currently losing people like Kane and Yamamoto, so if you wanna go that side with FLA I get that.
But I do really like the over here at even money with the way these two goalie duos are playing. If the Panthers get up the big boys for Edmonton always push and we should get a myriad of goals.
