The Avalanche are huge favorites on Tuesday vs. the Oilers but there still might be value on Colorado because of their impressive 6-2-3 home record. The Avalanche sit in 3rd place in the West, just a point back from the Flames but Edmonton is no pushover tonight. The Oilers have won 6 of 7 and are also an appealing bet at +127.
Edmonton Oilers
What’s especially impressive about Edmonton’s 7-2-1 record over their last 10 is that they’re getting wins without a whole lot of scoring. In six of those games the Oilers have been held to two goals or less and the team is just 26th i the league in goals scored. Connor McDavid can boost the upset win tonight however as he’s netted 3 pucks in 4 games in December.

The strength behind winning without scoring is goaltending. It’s been the strong play of Mikko Koskinen that has fueled the Oilers surge but it’s Cam Talbot in net vs. the Avalanche. Talbot seems to have turned things around with two straight wins but he had been bad losing all five starts in November.
Colorado Avalanche
The Avalanche are fired up tonight. Not only have they had two nights off, this is their first home game of the month after four on the road. The Avalanche have survived that stretch with a 7-2-1 record over their last 10 and they’ve been putting the puck in the net with 3+ goals in 7 of those contests. That could be tested against the Edmonton defense who has held 7 of 9 opponents to 2 goals or less.

Taking the net tonight for Colorado trying to defend home ice is Semyon Varlamov. He had a nice 5 game win streak to wind down November but has seen his share of struggles in December, going 1-2 and allowing 11 goals in three games. In his last two starts Varlamov allowed 6 to Pittsburgh and 5 goals to Tampa Bay so it will be interesting to see how he bounces back Tuesday.
NHL Betting Trends:
- Oilers are 6-1 their last 7 overall
- Oilers are 2-7 their last 9 road games
- Avalancehe are 6-1 their last 7 vs. West
- Oilers are 4-1 the last 5 in Colorado
Free Edmonton Oilers vs. Colorado Avalanche NHL Prediction:
Colorado is glad to be back home tonight although they did put up good numbers on their recent road stretch. There are some definite questions in goal for the Avalanche tonight but perhaps Varlamov puts them behind him on his own ice. Talbot seems to be surging in the right direction for Edmonton and they have one of the best goal scorers in the NHL on their side.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Edmonton +127
Both teams are hot but Edmonton just plays well in Colorado.
