Edmonton, on the second game of a back-to-back after a tout with Nashville, will head to Raleigh to take on the Carolina Hurricanes.
After losing five straight, the Hurricanes were able to grab a win in the first game after the All-Star Break, beating the Flyers 5-1.
Edmonton Oilers
Sitting 3rd in the Pacific Division, every game counts for the Oilers, as they vie for a playoff spot that they deserve based on the quality of this team.
Edmonton, captained by second-year center Connor McDavid, have been having a very good year on the offensive end. The Oilers are 8th in the National Hockey League with 154 total goals on the season, and a lot of that has been thanks to the playmaking of McDavid.

McDavid is a force when he hits the neutral zone, partly because of his quickness and stickhandling, but mostly because of his ability to pass and get to the net. Connor has 17 goals and 42 assists, giving him 59 total points on the season.
His 42 assists are extremely impressive and have generated a lot of goals for guys like Leon Draisaitl. Draisaitl is having a great year with 20 goals and 27 assists. He has three goals and four assists over his last five games.
Left wing Patrick Maroon has also played very well. He has 18 goals and eight assists this season. However, he has had a bit of a slump recently, recording just a single assist in his previous five games.
Carolina Hurricanes
The Canes have struggled to find consistency in the win column all season and are sitting 7th in the Metropolitan Division. Things aren’t looking good in terms of playoff hopes considering how good the Metro teams are.
Carolina has had its issues on both sides, offensively and defensively. Mostly offensively, as the team ranks 22nd in the league in goals scored with 131. It’s unfortunate because Carolina has some solid goal-scoring weapons, including Jeff Skinner and Sebastian Aho.
Skinner is having a good year, recording 18 goals and 18 assists at the left wing position. He’s dealing with a bit of a slump, recording a single goal over his last five games, but when he gets going, he’s tough to stop.
[dfads params=’groups=234&limit=1&return_javascript=1′]
Aho has been great in his rookie campaign. He has 15 goals and 15 assists, including a hat-trick in his previous game against the Flyers.
Carolina has the ability to win games based on its offense thanks to guys like Skinner and Aho. However, these two guys can’t do it alone and that’s where Carolina’s problems lie.
NHL Betting Trends:
- Edmonton is 4-8 ATS in the last 12 games
- The OVER is 3-2 in Carolina’s last five games
Free Edmonton Oilers vs. Carolina Hurricanes NHL Hockey Prediction:
Edmonton is trending upward while Carolina is trending down. The Oilers have McDavid and Draisaitl. The Hurricanes don’t. I like Edmonton to get the W on the road.
