I am incredibly sad to report as the resident Oilers writer here that Evander Kane will be missing 3-4 months after that scary incident last night in the Lightning game.
If you watched you obviously know but on an awkward play with a checking defenceman on him Evander fell in a harmless way but it left his wrist exposed and the oncoming Patrick Maroon inadvertently ran over his arm and lacerated his wrist.
It was a freak accident, nothing malicious at all and the urgency on both benches to signal for help is always something you don’t want to see given it’s brought on by something freaky like that but also nice to see that everyone comes to the guys aid.
Evander Kane has been placed on LTIR which gives them cap space to play with, and I feel absolutely disgusting for saying this because I’d far rather see Kane healthy and safe and in the lineup, but the only silver lining is that they might be able to make a move to get some help on D.
Again, I hate it, I am sad and feeling all kinds of emotions as I type this out because it’s a huge blow. Ultimately though and it goes without saying, it’s most important that he’s going to be just fine and fully recover.
Edmonton is heading into this one a little down in the dumps morally due to his injury, but also coming off of a nice win over Tampa where they played much better in areas that were lacking during their last 2 games.
Carolina is also playing this evening against Florida who are banged up bad.
So let’s figure this one out.
Edmonton Oilers
So a couple positives came from the game last night which was otherwise a mostly shitty day for the Oilers. They did not allow a goal on the penalty kill which was massive due to the number of penalties they took.
They also got a great performance from Jack Campbell who started back to back nights and recently called his game pathetic. I happened to think it wasn’t and he was too hard on himself.
But nevertheless he played what many think is his best game of his Oilers tenure thus far. He looked sharp early and didn’t give up any soft ones.
Carolina Hurricanes
I have written a lot about the Canes lately so I do not want to get into this case again too much. We all know what they can do and we also have a game of theirs to watch tonight prior to betting this one I would say.
What I should say is that the information about who is going to start tomorrow for the Caniacs is shaky. Frederik Andersen is questionable tonight and therefore it’s expected Raanta will play, meaning Kotchetkov is likely to play tomorrow.
We have no information on this kid he hasn’t started a game ever in the NHL so we’ll see.

I actually love the Oilers in this spot to win SU off a nights rest, the Hurricanes on off a back to back, and with their third string goalie in net.
Backups who have never started a game in the NHL are likely having nightmares about their opening night being against Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. As I type this it makes me think that the Hurricanes will play Raanta on a back to back because of his experience.
But if it rings true that the kid is in net whose name I am not going to type again, I like the Oilers with the plus money.
