These days, the ‘Battle of Alberta’ is littered with some bright superstars. The late game for ‘Hockey Night in Canada’ is always a spirited tilt, and it shouldn’t disappoint this time around either. Both teams are eager for a win and it could come down to who scores last in Calgary on Saturday night.
Edmonton Oilers
The brightest star in the game dwells on the top line of the Oil. Connor McDavid needs to introduction – but he could use some help, besides Leon Draisaitl and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. The Oilers are, without a doubt, a one-line team. Granted, there is enough talent on that line to take over a game, but if you can even slow those three, you’ve likely got the Oilers beat.

Still, this rivalry game always takes on a bit more enmity, especially for Edmonton’s faithful – perhaps there’s a slight inferiority complex in the city of Edmonton as opposed to the slightly more cosmopolitan Calgary. Hopefully that gives some of the lower-line guys and lesser-minute types some added jump.
Calgary Flames
The Flames have a money top line of their own, with skill mavens like Johnny Gaudreau, Sean Monahan and Matthew Tkachuk. Calgary’s problem is shaky starting goaltending. Veteran goalie Mike Smith has had his moments throughout his career, but he’s really been brutal lately. Calgary’s backup, David Rittich, has been playing pretty good, but there seems to be this implicit loyalty in sticking with Smith.

Calgary has dropped three of its last four, so Flames fans will be looking for a top performance against their rival on Saturday night. The Flames should start Rittich, the Czech rookie has been far superior to Smith in the chances he’s received.
If ‘Johnny Hockey’ goes off for one of his big games, he has the puck skills alone to blow this game open in the home team’s favor.

Free Edmonton Oilers vs. Calgary Flames NHL Prediction:
It’s a tough one to call, because both teams have had rather uninspired play of late and both teams have had sub-par starting goaltending. Someone has to win, and hopefully the victor can vault their play forward with some momentum from a beat over a division and provincial rival.
The shoddy goaltending makes me think that there will be quite a few lamps lit in this contest. Studs like Gaudreau, Tkachuk and Connor Mac Dee should find their way on the scoresheet.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Oilers ML
It could be an intriguing game to watch at the bar on a Saturday night, and I could see the Oil winning a nail-biter.
